the only way it will is if i really push the gas pedal. i hear my engine reving hard but it still falls to accelerate. im not sure who to take it to. im a petite 19 yr old female and i dont want to be jerked around. this is my only car and it is VITAL to my life since i have school and work. should i take it to a specialist? its a ford 2000 zx2 escort. or can i take it to a regular mechanic? i need to fix this ASAP!

It's kinda tricky from your description to tell where your problem lies. Keep in mind it is impossible to acurately diagnose a problem on the computer. It's all just guesing, some a little more scientific then others.

It's hard to distuinguish if you have an engine performance problem or a transmision or clutch slipping problem. One way to tell would be to monitor the check engine light. If it's on then your probably gonna have an engine performance issue. If it's not on it's a little more likely that your describing a slipping transmision. If the check engine light flashes when the problem occurs then it is most likely a misfire condition.

  2. if its is an auto trans then the transmission clutches may be allowing the trans to slip more than usual between gears. first thing is to check the fluid. if the fluid is bright red then it is good. if it is brown it needs to be replaced. many times a fluid change will fix a slipping trans. any backyard mechanic can do a fluid change and while there at it have them replace the filter as well. if a fluid change doesn't help you need a new trans which will require a specialist to repair or replace.

if it is a manual get a new tranny

  3. take it amaaco

  4. I'm guessing it's the transmission. Just take to a Ford dealership and have them take a look at it. Or just call them and they'll tell you what to do.

  5. i agree with the first guy I would go to the dealer less likely to jerk you around but they tend to cost more on what they do fix if you have a friend who really knows cars ask him or her to check the car out and then go with you so they can tell you if the mechanic is trying to take advantage of you
