  1. Check your battery cables to make sure they are making a good contact and not corroded with gunk.

If you have the car started and pull off the battery cables and it still runs,  then it's not the alternator.

You may want to check your fuel filter, it could  be time to get a new one.

You can also try an additive to your fuel tank, in case you got some bad fuel.

I'm NOT a mechanic, but I maintain a fleet of buses and vans for my work, so I've seen loads of different symptoms and fixes with vehicles.

also I own an Olds Aurora.  (Much older than your though) I'm having a lot of electrical problems with mine, but it does have a gazillion miles on it, so it's time to take it for a tune up.

  2. my dads car did tht do. i cant remeber if it was because water got in the tank or a bad carberater

either way you should take it to a mechanic

  3. Get a better car

  4. My suggestion is to get it fixed

  5. Check it's maintenance history.

  6. It sounds to me like you may have a fuel system issue. Get yourself some fuel injector cleaner, and pour it into your gas tank, and see if that helps. If you see no improvement, then you may need to dig a little deeper... Your electric fuel pump may be going, which would account for the engine just stopping like it does, and also sometimes taking a couple of tries to get it started, again. Something else you may want to consider would be the fuel pump relay/sensor... This relay/sensor is what powers up the electric fuel pump, so if this isn't working right, the fuel pump won't either. Some other things you may also want to try would be the fuel filter and the fuel pressure regulator. Hope this helps you some.

  7. A problem like that usually has something to do with a sensor in the car.  Specifically it tells the car's engine to run at a certain level.  You know you have this problem when it occurs when your car is "hot."  i.e. been running for a while.

A more serious problem, could be a gas leak, or a fuel pump malfunction.

As scary as these problems may sound, if you can get the spare parts, just about any car buff can get these replaced for you without too much trouble.

  8. The engine's idle speed wants increasing. I am not familiar with this familiar model - whether it is cable operated or electrically operated.

Either way a mechanic can adjust the idle speed quickly & cheaply.

    Good luck. h
