My car is almost 9 years old and has about 45k miles. It's a BMW and I'm about to take it on a long road trip. I have noticed that its been kinda slugging in its performance and that might be because of buildup of sludge in the engine or something.

What kind of things can I replace like, filter, oil, fans, ect or tune up so it is running smoothly and like normal again?

  1. Cap,rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, pcv, and a good bottle of fuel injector cleaner (Zmax) and change the oil with synthetic + zmax oil additive

  2. Plugs, plug wires, and if you run alot of low octane fuel run a fuel system cleaner through it, Lucas is a good product, or outlaw.

  3. check out autozone.com they may have your repair manual it has step by step instructions and diagrams to help you save money by doing it yourself

  4. take a look at ur owners manual.  it will list everything due at 45000 miles. And everything that was due before that, but wasnt done.... usually 30,000 mile interval for shocks and trans fluid for example. Sludge build up is a real issue for todays cars. Regular oil changes, is the biggest defense.

  5. getting a tune-up for an older car is always a good thing. bmw's last a while. i would encourage you to go to a mechanic and ask for a tune-up or simply for him to look at your car. if it seems like its been driving differently, i would put safety first. you don't want to jeopardize your life just because you needed an oil change. you never know. if you still need help, email me. -lexi

  6. get the spark plugs changed, oil tranny and air filters changed, you should be on your way after that,......

  7. tuneup easy and so is oil change and wouldnt hurt to get new fuel and air filter while your at it.. also wouldnt hurt to add a bottle of fuel treatment

  8. Air filter, fuel filter, oil and filter, tranny filter, pcv, spark plugs and plug wires, clean the MAF/MAP sensor, check the o2 sensors, flush cooling system, check/replace brake pads, check/ resurface rotors, MotorVac (or similar fuel system flush) to comletely flush the fuel system and injectors, fill with premium.  Should run perfect.  What ever you do though DO NOT use an over the counter fuel system cleaner/ injector cleaner as it may melt your fuel filter and get the particles lodged in your injectors and strip the varnish from the windings in your fuel pump and fuel injectors!!!

  9. At 45k miles, the first thing I would check is the air filter.

  10. yeah id replace the oil, filter, fans, water pump, and muffler, also tune it up. have you ever maintained it?
