My car radio audio does not turn on, can it be the amp if so...?

can I purchase just any amp? I have a 99 lexus gs400.

  1. Try resetting the system by removing the negative battery cable for a few minutes. I've seen this work on a number of Lexus systems.

    The problem may be in the amp or in the head unit. You will not be able to substitute an aftermarket amp or head unit without eliminating both. The head unit sends data to the amp to control the volume, tone and speaker balance/fade. The amp contains the circuits that change these settings. If you use an aftermarket amp, you won't be able to control the volume.


  2. yes it can be the amplifier ,the radio takes power to turn on from the amplifier also there are 2 fuses for the audio system  pioneer or nakamichi  one is in the engine compartment

    also if the radio cd changers gets stuck sometimes it burns the power supply of the radio
