I went to get an oil change today and the technician notice that my that my tires are on the wrong way. he showed me the words on the tires says "inside" so that means that side is suppose to be inside and the other white wall side is to show on the outside and that it will wear my tires out faster if i dont change it . I went back to the place where i bought my tires and the guys there says its ok since i want to hide the white letters and for me to just rotate them. i told him since the wait was too long i will come back. My question is What should i do? Does it really matter and how will it affect my tires?

  1. it would help to know whaty kind of tires you have. however i think that if your tires have a white wall, then they're probably not directional tires. they would more likely have an arrow than say inside. post what kind of tires. that would help.

  2. Tires should be able to be used on any side....they're designed that way...

Have them rotated... That shouldn't make your tires wear faster...some people think they know it all....

    Trust your tire man...

  3. Having Pictures of these "Wrong Mounted tires would Help" But that's one on me. "Nothing wrong!" but if it really worries you have all 4 tires Remounted on the rims.

  4. I'm a tire guy  been one for 30 yrs.. if it dont have a arrow pointing for a direction of rotation they are ok....or you can tell them to switch the to white letters out but most people dont like to clean them so most put the letters inside.. your ok

  5. If your tire says inside then mount them so the inside is on the inside.

Is everyone else answering just to hear themselves talk? Did anyone do any research before answering? Kelly you have been a tire guy for 30 years and have never heard of an asymmetrical tire? Not all tires are just throw them on a drive. There are nice tires out there. It is the only thing that touches the ground please buy nice tires in the future. 4 for $100 is not the way to live....anyway...

It won't cause any damage to have them on anyway but by installing them properly you may increase your handling....more then likely wet traction.

Some nicer tires are designed with tread that directs water away from the tire and car. If they are on wrong you won't get that benefit. It will also help dry traction a bit and they may be a bit loud right now since the tread is not a smooth as it could be facing that way. You may have never noticed and gotten used to it but that doesn't make it a good thing.

Here is a page I found on common mounting problems and why to remount them properly -

  6. If they have a white wall. They are not directional (you would have an arrow with "rotation" printed on it showing the rotation the tire must follow in fore-ward motion).

Rotate your tires every 3 oil changes and you will be fine.

The "inside" logo is manufacturers suggestion (White letters are more visible, Thus advertise more for the manufacturer)

Please tell me the "tech" didn't work at wal*mart.

  7. Get those reversed right away. An asymmetrical tire is waaaay more costly than just getting the tires rotated.

My boyfriend had backwards tires and rotors. Imagine his pain lol.

  8. they are fine the way you have them no problem as long as they are not directional which I am sure they are not as a tire store wouldn't install them wrong if they are directional
