My car was sideswipped while it was parked. When I came back I found a note from the police, telling me to pick up a police report. There was a total of six car involved in the accident. But it looks like one was responsible for the whole thing. I have the report and it only has the policy number for the insurance of the car that hit me. It does not say which company. What should I do now? Should contact my insurance? Will my premium go up even though the car was parked? I really don't know what to do? Please advise me. Thank you

  1. You could report the loss to your company. If you have collision coverage they will repair your vehicle. You will have to pay your deductible though.

Your premiums should not increase for a not at fault accident.

Once your vehicle is repaired, your carrier will collect the monies back from the at fault driver or their company through subrogation. Your deductible will then be reimbursed to you.

You do also have the option of contacting the police or the at fault driver to try and obtain their insurance company info. Then you could file the claim with that company directly.

  2. You should report the accident to your insurance company, they will be able to use the policy number you have to go after the guy that hit your car... NOW, sometimes, not all the time, does your premium get increased. I was recently rear-ended, totally not my fault, and my premium is not going up.  BUT be prepared to pay for a rental (even if you have rental reimbursement with your insurance) and also be prepared to fork over your deductable. You'll be reimbursed but you still have to pay for it first. I know it sounds like a major hassel and it is, but it's not worth getting a lawyer unless you plan on suing the guy that hit you. ANd unless you were injured, it's not worth having to pay the lawyer too. TRUST ME.

  3. If you contact your insurance you will get a higher premium. But you need to get your car repaired right? Call a attorney that deals with these kinds of accidents and since you weren't driving  you cannot be accountable for anything.  By the way the police should give you the name of the people involved in the car accident.

  4. Insurance companys only surcharge for accidents when claims are filed under collision coverage and over threshold of $500.00.  There is a possibility the claim can be handled under uninsured motorist and the accident won't count against you.  First, report claim to your insurance company and see what happens from there

  5. contact your insurance company with the police report let them contact the police and the other drivers insurance. your insurace should be able to pull up the policy number and as far as your insurance raising I wish it wasn't this way but more than like will increase but not imediatly.   the sooner you take care of this the better off you'll be.

  6. Call your insurance company, get the police report fax it to the insurance company. They will answer your questions.

  7. Contact your insurance company. You are not at fault and have the policy number of the driver who did the damage. You do not need a lawyer at this point so don't retain one. Your rates will not go up unless you make a claim that your company has to pay.
