My car will be paid off soon and my Ex-Fiance is first on the Agreement...

The names are listed as ie: Bob AND Marie so and so.. I have paid on this car 4 out of the 5 years and is MY car. Once this car is paid off, won't they contact my ex due to his name being first. We are in good terms I just want to make sure I cover my basis on all angles. I want the title with my name only. What steps do I need to take to remove his name when the car is paid off and the title is mine? I have a power of attorney from him in the state I live in when I got my tags. Is this something that can be used?

  1. with the POA you should be able to sign the title over to yourself at the dmv...be sure to have it on hand... the trick is getting the title...write to/call the lein holder and give them your address...if they argue about it say you moved and/or send them a fax/copy of POA

  2. you will have to pay him 1/2 the cars value before you can register it legally to you only.

  3. His name being listed "first" has nothing to do with anything. It's the "and" between the names. If it said "or" you could sign it over to yourself. The leinholder doesn't notify anyone. They mail the title to the address on the title. If the title is mailed to you, take it to your X and have him sign it over to you. With the last payment, notify the leinholder to mail title to your address.
