Question:

My car will turn over, but will not start?

I was driving home, going about 70 mph, when all of a sudden, my car just decided to quit. Amazingly, some mechanics were nearby. They looked at it briefly for me and said it is likely the fuel pump. At this point, I have also ruled out a block in the fuel filter. What else could be wrong?

  1. if you were driving and the car just cut on you, i beleive this is the timing chain. And when you get it checked ask them if the pistons were damaged when the chain broke. Sometime when this happens, fairly soon, you'll need a new enchine. keep your eye on it if it starts to smoke white smoke.

  2. Hard to tell without being there to look at it. Does it have spark at the plugs? Does it have fuel pressure in the fuel rail?

  3. an easy way to test this theory is  have a friend turn key to on position   while you listen at the back of the car by the fuel tank for a noise like that of a motor(since the fuel pump is a motor)  if there is no sound then its pretty safe to assume that its the pump if there is a noise it could still be the pump not giving enough pressure  but rule out other things like spark plugs and coils etc etc....
