Question:

My car won't start, but the lights come on? Warranty question too?

I think it might be the starter since the lights will come on, but the car itself won't start. The lights and sounds come on, and the car sounds like it wants to start, but doesn't. What do you think is wrong?

It is a 2001 Hyundai Accent.

I am still under warranty and have 24 hour roadside assistance with Hyundai. If it's under warranty, do I have to pay for this repair? This is my first car and I am not sure what benefits I have with the roadside assistance and the warranty.

Any info would be awesome!

Thanks!

  1. it could also be the battery. Just because the lights come on doesnt mean that the battery is working completley, it could be working just enough to get the lights on. I had a similiar problem and thought it was the started because of the lights. I bawled because of the pricetag on a starter. Thankfully my hubby replaced the battery (corosion) and it started right up! GOod luck.

  2. It could be a number of things, but have them give you a tow and see if it is covered because depending on what the acutal problem is, it may or may not be covered. Check for fuel and spark if you can because that may be an easy fix, but if you can't get it going just get the tow.

  3. do you smell gas by any chance. See if all of the air hoses are connected make sure it didn't come disconnected when you hit a bump. Also try to listen when you first stick the key into the car, listen towards the back by the trunk, underneath should be your fuel tank. It should make a quite whining noise when you put the key right (the key position should be at the point right before you start the car). It may help to have someone at the backseat or trunk so they can hear while you turn the key. If you don't hear anything it may be your fuel pump. Also make sure you have charge on your battery. Starting a car takes ALOT of energy so your lights may be working but the battery may not have enough energy to start the car. If your battery has problems then it may be your alternator. Let us know, Good Luck.

  4. dammit thats bad that means u gotta get ur engine replaced becauz it seized up dont take it to the shop theyll charge just to look at it. Buy a new engine and put it in yourself all u need is a s***w driver

  5. call the dealership if ur under warranty!

  6. its most lickly your battery try jumping it and if it isnt then wat u do is take it back to the dealer ship sence u have a warranty they should fix it for free sence you cant take it down there call them and tell them wats going on
