i've been having trouble starting my car the past month or so.. originally we thought it was the old battery so we got a new one still had some problems, occassionaly didn't start, now jumping it has no effect(and yes it was connected well) the battery opperated stuff works just fine.. it makes a click noise when i turn it over, also we took it to where we got the battery from and they did a test on the battery and alternator which came up with no problems with it at all. what do you think is wrong?

BTW i drive a 99' chrysler LHS...

  1. battery cable ends a dirty or bad.. starter uses more power than anything so you can say thing like my light work so the battery is good it dont work like that... if it clicks then its connected well somewhere.. first place to check is the cables and the wires to the starter and really if they tested the others they coul dhave tested the starter the same time with the same machine

  2. Starter.

  3. starter.

    starter solenoid.

battery cables. both, loose ground at batter or frame/engine block will cause this also.

if you can reach with out blowing up th car, run a jumper cable from the battery to the starter. if it starts, battery cable. do the same with the negative cable.

electrical devices working are no indication of battery power, they will work on much less power then the starter.

you can also try , with car not running, turn on head lights. wiggle battery cables at battery and starter and engine/frame. if head lights get brighter, loose connection.

  4. It could be a loose wire my parents had car problems like that.

  5. Starter solenoid is dead, replace the starter and your good to go.

  6. it could be a bad part inside your starter silinoid, change the starter. i have a ford bronco and for months it would start fine, but after driving for a little whileand turning it off it would not start again, towed a few times but when it cools it starts again.good luck

  7. the starter of the alternator

  8. My jeep struggles starting. The first thing you should consider is replacing the spark plugs. If that doesn't work (with my jeep, there is a crack on the manifold, the makes the car noisier when you first start it up. It sometimes takes me a couple times to start it and sometimes i need to rev the enginge and feed it a little gas.  If it is the manifold, its not a big deal, it doesn;t effect the performance of the car, emiision etc, once the car is driving for a bit it warms up and the gap slowly closes and it drives fine. Some ppl look at me like i'm a hot shot revving the car . . . . but s***w them . . . . too lazy to get it fixed!

  9. its your starter...mine just went out tuesday! Same clicking noise i am guessing you are hearing.. YEAH!!

did it make kind of like a squealing noise in previous starts?  that's what mine did.

  10. Starter problem or you just need a full tune up/ fuel filter, plugs, wires, cap, roter.

  11. its the starter went bad you will need a new one

  12. If the battery is new and the alternator checks out as OK, I'd be looking for loose, dirty or corroded electrical connections first, then suspect the starter.

  13. starting cellinoses need replaces ?

  14. the starter is going out.

  15. starter

  16. It might be your actual ignition switch.
