I have 91 Plymouth Acclaim, runs great but it takes a few seconds to start and it helps to pump the gas pedal. I checked the throttle plate like someone said on another post but from the out side it looks clean. anything else that might be the problem? it is fuel injected to it cant be the fuel pump right?

  1. Try turning the key to "on" and waiting a few seconds before you engage the starter, this will give the electric fuel pump a few seconds to build pressure in the system and it will start a lot easier.

    Good Luck!

That is normal on older cars.  The fuel pump or the fuel pressure regulator is not holding fuel pressure after the engine is turned off.  You can either check the fuel pressure and see how the pressure hold (for few hours after the engine is turned off).

    Good Luck...
