My cars damaged... whos liable please help??

i lent my daughters car (without her knowledge) to my grandaughters partner to collect my son from hospital as he was unhappy an was self discharging himself. i knew he was uninsured but for my sons benifit i gave him the keys.... much to my disapointment there was an accident and my daughters vichicle was returned with considerable damage. the police are involved an his being charged with no insurance. what i want to know is whos legaly liable to pay for this damage?!?!?

  1. The owner of the vehicle is always responsible and after that is used up the then driver will need to pay anything once the insurance is used up if it goes that far.


  2. You gave him the keys so you are at fault and should pay. You knew the car was uninsured.  It was your daughter's car and she should have had insurance if the car was driven, but then she did not give the keys to your granddaughter's partner.  You did!

  3. Your daughter can say the car was stolen (used without her permission) and then you would be liable.  If she won't do that then she basically accepts responsibility and it goes on her insurance.  The owner of the car is responsible for the damage to it and any other cars.  The driver can be ticketed/fined for no insurance too but won't be liable unless your daughter's insurance company sues him.

  4. Your granddaughters partner is going to be made liable due to lack of insurance.
