Question:

My cat's 'purr box' is broken!?!?!?

We got Noah, our orange-and-white 8 month old tabby, when he was only a few weeks old. From the second he first came in our house, he wouldn't let go! He'd follow us everywhere! Pawing up on our legs because he wanted to be picked up, jumping on furniture and then onto our unsuspecting shoulders... we'd sit up and he'd literally curl around our necks for hours at a time watching a movie, non-stop purring. He'd even sleep in my bed with me under the covers, on his own free will, always purring... My dad and I thought we was the best kitten in the world.

But slowly, as he grew bigger, he became less attached to us, and started to bite a lot. I honestly think it's safe to say I haven't heard him purr for two weeks!!!!!

What happened to my loving little kitty?!?! He won't sit with me for longer than a minute! He's becoming very solitary, and would rather lay on the kitchen floor than being petted on my lap.

I haven't mis-treated him at all other them throwing him away when he's got 20 claws and 20-odd teeth in my arm. He like to be in the same room, withing a couple feet of us, but never up with us.

Why is he acting like this? What did I do? What can I do? WHAT HAPPENED?!?

I'm grateful for any help that I'll receive. Thanks.

  1. he is proubly getting older and just wants his own time because when cats get older they tend to be less attached and by that they may not purr as much as u thought they would but give him his own space for a week and see wat happends feed him on a daily bases and if u have any cat treats give them that because it will make them happy and maybe even get him to PURR.

  2. The best bet is find what he wants to play with. That will help with biting and scratching. It normal for a kitten to go through an adolescence stage of development that right you have a teenager on your hands. Cats go through the same teenager problems humans do. Where they act like they don't want to know you. The good news he will go back to being a lovable cat again in a few months but with some Independence.

But there other things to consider too like if he\she has been desexed  any medical problems he may be having and diet.

  3. hmmmmmm almost all cats are like that or at least all of mine were except midnight my black cat she sleeps right on my head :) but like almost every living thing doesn't want to love all over their parents their whole life maybe your cat has just gotten older its ok it still loves you and about the purring, well some cats just don't purr when they get older. :)

  4. It may be that he is ready to start mating, and you don't qualify as a great choice. The purring is his choice to make, and perhaps he is not feeling up to it with you. Not all cats are lovable. There can be many reasons. Wait til winter and see if he will settle down again.

  5. he is growing up! Kittens can be attached to their owners when they are young, but will want more independence as they grow older. He still loves you, but he wants to explore more.I mean he is less then a year old! Also is he neutered? He should be, and cats can get quite miserable when they aren't neutered! But dont worry, he still loves you even though he doesnt show affection 24/7! Love him too.

  6. Could be that he's getting older and wants to be left alone to sleep.  But just wondering, was he neutered?

Sorry for late reply.  I was gonna say some times cats' personalities change after they were neutered or spayed.

I still think it might just be he's growing up.  Also try these two purr buttons: the side of his chin, close to the neck; and the spot on his back where the tail starts.  My cat loves it when I scratch her there.

  7. My cat had a major change in personality when he reached maturity.  He became very moody and was no longer cuddly.  Has your cat started crying and wandering around unhappily?  that is what mine did.  Neutering him helped a little, but his personality was always kind of grumpy.  He was a great cat, though.  I don't know what my life would have been like without him.  I had him for 18 years.

  8. maybe he doesn't want to anymore
