My cat is a little over a year old and has always gone in the litter box. Lately he's ignoring the box's existence. He going poo right in front of the bathtub, IN the bathtub, and I just caught him peeing in my hamper. I've tried cleaning the already empty litter box out and putting in new litter. I'm using the same litter as always. I don't know what else to do, it's been going on for abour a week now.

  1. Is anything different in your household? I know that when my parents got married the cat acted out to show his disapproval. Also when I had my son my cat did the same thing.

Right now I have a cat that usually uses the litter box but sometimes uses my carpet... We've started keeping him in the bathroom with his litterbox until somebody is around to keep an eye on him.

  2. Rubbing the cats nose in his pee or poo is not the thing to do it will just make it worse.  Something changed or upset your cat...Did you move the litter box get another pet or have visitors come or go.  change his food or dish.  Did you use a harsh cleaner on the litter box when you cleaned it the previous week? Is he fixed? If not do it fast.  Remember to clean every place the cat peed or pooed with an enzyme pet urine remover.  You can use a black light to help find the stains if needed.  You may have to isolate him with his box until the behavior returns to normal.  Make sure he is not sick.  When he does use the box praise him this will reinforce the good behavior maybe even give treats.  You might want to use a cat litter additive I use one it is called Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra Litter Attractant. It comes in a 20 oz. container. It looks like catnip and I get it at Petsmart.  I had a female cat that had an issue using the litter box if one of my other cats got there first she would not go to another box but sit in front of the one she wanted to use and make a huffing sound as if displease that she could see footprints in the litter.  I started using this and she has no problems even if she can see one of the other cats spot.

  3. Catch him in the act, rub his nose in it, grab the poo with a tissue then put him and the poo in the litter box and tell him that's where he's supposed to go. He'll get it. Eventually.

  4. Maybe your cat is hungry and he's looking for food.
