My cat's head VIBRATES....ear mites? Brain tumor? PLEASE help me!!

Long story short, my kitty has been ill all week. First he had a UTI, but he's on antibiotics for it now and is peeing well. Then he got constipated, so the vet gave him an IV of some fluid and a kitty laxative to help him p**p--now he poops. Today I found out my kitty also has fleas, so I bought some flea and tick shampoo, gave him a good bath, and put a flea collar on him.

Now that he's all dry and I'm watching a movie, he wants to cuddle. So I'm petting his head and I noticed that the spot directly behind his ears is VIBRATING, not just shaking, but it literally feels like a vibrating phone or some other device. It does that for a few seconds, stops, and then reoccurs again. However it doesn't seem like he even notices it.

I also noticed today that he's been scratching inside his ear a lot and vigorously shaking his head back and forth as if he was trying to get something out. He kinda loses his balance when he does this and he just altogether seems a little out of it. However, I've had a cat that's had ear mites before and he's got no gunk or anything inside of his ears--they are completely clean. I'm worried it might be a kitty brain aneurysm....I really hope I"m wrong.

My cat's been in the emergency pet clinic twice this week and has already racked up about 300 worth of bills for me...I'm willing to take him in tomorrow when it won't be during emergency hours for his ear, but I'm really scared about this whole situation. Please help me. Thanks a lot.

  1. maybe he's purring. an aneurysm doesnt vibrate. Either does a brain tumor or anything else up there. You know how people quietly hum while relaxed? Well kitty is relaxed after his bath and purrrrring. Mom needs to relax.

  2. ya like those 2 said hes ether sensitive to the flea coller or purring or mabey both!

  3. I work at an animal hospital and we had a dog who has a UTI and comes in frequently cuz she keeps having seizures. It looks like she's nodding her head really fast, which is actually a seizure. So im guessing...maybe it's a seizure, just an idea...

  4. hmmm. this is a hard one. it may be chiggers or something weird parasite underneath the skin because he's scratching it. it doesnt sound like ear mites. did u rescue this cat? was he abused? i dont think its a brain tumor or anurysm. it must be a nerve, nervous thing, or a parasite, are you sure you got rid of the fleas completely?

  5. He may be sensitive to the flea collar.  He could be twitching the muscles that are directly under his skin because the collar is irritating.  I would take it off and see how he does.  Flea collars don't really work to kill fleas and the chemicals can be harmful to pets that are young and/or have suppressed immune systems.  I would also contact your vet in the morning and get some flea medication from them.  Products like Frontline and Advantage work great.  Be sure to tell the vet what flea products you have used on the kitty already.  Hope that helps!

  6. I picked up a stray one time and took her to the vet and her head shook and she had some type of autoimmune disease and if i hadn't took her she would have died.
