  1. A lizard got into my house one day and my cats patiently stalked it for three days until it got so desperate that it made a dash for the door from

under the rug where it was hiding out.  Bingo!  cat pounced.  Your cat knows that there is a bird up in the house  and it is spending its whole life thinking about it.  What you are doing is tantamount to feline abuse!  A

bird is in her territory!  Have you ever seen the old Disney Sylvester and Tweety cartoon shorts?   They are so classic!!!  Especially the one where

Sylvester goes to a 12 step program to rid himself of the compulsion to want to eat Tweety.  It's  a knee slapper all right!  There are species specific behaviors and, no, we can't all just get along when it comes to

    that.

  2. In my experience cats are social animals and don't like being left "on the other side of the door", especially if they can hear your voices or activity.  My cats freak out at the bathroom door even if I'm just in there for five minutes.  I would say she is lonely and wants to be upstairs with everyone else.  Is there a way you can keep the bird in just one room she can't get into and let her have more freedom of movement?

  3. She is bored and lonely.  Consider training her to leave the bird alone.  I feel really bad for her locked up in the basement all the time, cats need some freedom.

  4. She wants some companionship.

  5. She wants to be with her family (and maybe have a bit of bird too, lol).

    What kind of bird?

We had a lovebird once that had the cat in a state of terror. It would march right up to the cat and bite something tender, like her back foot or tail. Unfortunately that doesn't work with all cat/bird pairs. Years later we had another cat who turned out to be quite the bird catcher. He swatted a bird out of the air like King Kong swatting planes.

The bird should be in a cage for safety. You can put the cat in her own room when you need to exercise the bird but the cat should not be banished from the rest of the family. Maybe you should find one of them a new home.

  6. Aw!!! Your poor kitty just wants to be with you guys! She wants some time with you so you should visit her more often and give her lotsa love and toys. But why does she have to stay down there? I mean we have birds and cats but our cats leave our birds alone. We trained them not to mess with the cage by squirting them with a water gun now they pay no attention to the birds.

  7. She wants company. Isn't there anyway possible to put your bird in some manner so that your cat can come upstairs (and not kill your bird)?

  8. She doesn't like being in the basement by herself.  Let her in the house so she'll have companionship.  You can hang the bird cage up high at the ceiling where she can't get to it.  Or put the bird cage in another room and keep the door closed.

  9. SHE IS LONELY!!! you locked a socail creature downstairs, what did you expect! it would be like locking a 5yr old downstairs and visiting him ever few hours to say hello. no one to play with or talk to. your cat needs to be out and about, not locked up.
