I have a rather large (not fat just really big in size) male short hair domestic. First, his tail never wags, it "twitches", secondly he doesn't do the traditional circling before laying down he just plops down where ever he wants to lay, thirdly he chases his own tail, like a dog, lastly he attacks his toys with his BACK paws, i never see him use his front, Does anyone else have a cat like this?

  1. the first answer is WRONG. No need to go to a vet. you have a perfectly normal cat. Sounds like normal behavior. My male cat chases his tail all the time and attacks his toys with his back feet. My female has the twitching thing going on as well.......lol!  good luck!

  2. I think it's because he's a domestic cat. In the book Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging (angus is the cat's name), the cat was domestica and was described the way you described your cat. So i''m pretty sure it's normal as long as it's healthy.

  3. Well, its good that his tail never wags because that would mean he's angry.  I've seen some of my cats play with toys with their back feet, but only in conjuction with their front feet.  Cats Often don't circle when they lay down. Sounds like he's pretty normal for a cat.

  4. I have a 7 year old female that does this as well.  The twitching usually is a sign of nervousness or anxiety for her.  I always felt that the plopping down is just a sign of comfort and security in the environment.  As for the tail chasing?  Well, she isn't that bright.

  5. Cats don't tend to wag their tails they do twitch. My kitten also chases his tail and all cats use their back paws when attacking, rapidly while laying on their sides and grasping the "prey".

  6. We had a cat in the shelter that I work at that acted just like that!  The tail twitch was hilarious.  I don't know why they act like that.. but just like humans.. cats have their own personalities and quirks.

  7. you should see a vet...maybe there is something wrong with it's tail and front paws

  8. Its a rare cat who wags its tail. Most cats do twitch their tails and how they do it can tell you what they are saying.  Study up on that one.

When a male cat comes to the place they want to lay down they always just plop down. They are the kings of the universe and as such all that belongs in it is theirs.  Lots of cats fight with their back paws.  its an escape mechanism that is ingrained from eons ago.

Don't worry you just have a very macho kitty. Shhhhhh he doesn't know he is just a kitty. He thinks he is a lion

  9. Well, of the 3 cats that I have had the only thing that my cat does that's the same is plops down. She a small female and very delicate about most things, except that.
