Question:

My cat appears drunk

My cat will be 13 at the end of the month. She is a Persian. She was fine all day yesterday. I went out around 5 and returned home at 10. She then started walking like she was drunk i.e. stumbling, not keeping her footing, etc. There is nothing poisonous around that she could've gotten into. She appears totally fine, other than she is walking funny. As I am typing this, she almost fell off the chair she was on. It just came on very suddenly and I am concerned.

  1. She might be having a heart attack. That's what happened with my cat when he died. He was fine and then he started walking funny and he went into a spasm and *sniff sniff* died. You need to rush her to the vet NOW.

  2. My persian had this same problem and he had an ear infection.  You need to take your cat to the vet.

  3.      Cats can get drunk on catnip.

  4. If you are absolutely sure that she could not have eaten anything poisonous, take her to the vet straight away. It may be serious.

  5. Take her to the vet.  She may have had a stroke.

    Good luck.

Give her comfort and don't freak out, she'll pick up on that.

BUT DO GET HER TO A VET.

  6. It could be a stroke.

See a vet ASAP.  There are things you can do to give her a better quality of life if her brain is damaged, BUT YOU MUST ACT NOW!

Time is critical.  The longer you wait the less options you have for a good recovery.

  7. She might have an ear infection or head cold, which would give her the vertigo like symptoms. She needs to go to the vet. DO NOT give her ibuprofin. It is poisonous to cat. Steph

  8. Your poor pussycat may have had a slight stoke. I would take it to the vets asap. Sorry if this sounds scary! If she's not in any pain but staggering and falling it sounds like a mini stroke. I hope she is okay. It's horrible when our lovely old cats become unwell. Good luck. Hopefully she will make a good recovery.

  9. Your poor kitty may have kitty vertigo.  My coworkers kitty did.  I wouldn't have believed a cat could have vertigo, but I saw it for my own eyes.  She did take the cat to the vet.  I think she got some shots and was sent home with some ibuprofen.  I hope all is well....
