Question:

My cat appears to be "on heat". How long does this last?

I will not disrespect my cat with descriptions of her rather undignified behaviour but I am quite sure that she is feeling "broody", shall we say.

Please, someone tell me how long this is likely to last, as I find it disturbing when she looks at me through narrowed eyes whilst crawling across the floor with her bum in the air. Oops, just broke my promise.

Either way, it is a bit disgusting and I am hoping it will pass in a week or two. What do you reckon?

  1. This happened to my cat, usually lasted about 3 days each time.

Now we've had her "done" if you get what I mean, and it doesn't happen anymore.

    Thank god.

    Creepy it was.

  2. It shouldn't last more than a week but she will go in heat every month and not only do you have to suffer through it SHE does too...so please get her spayed. She'll stop going into heat plus she'll be lots happier!

  3. try spaying or neauture ur cat. that will make him stop and it will last forever if u don't. and it's also, dangerous because cats will try to bite u when they are ' on heat '

  4. shes not "on heat". shes "in heat".

  5. it usually lasts 2 to 3 days

  6. At least several days but since it's summer it'll probably start up all over again fairly soon.  The vet should be able to give her a hormone shot to get her to come out of heat asap.  Or wait until it's over and get her fixed.

I've owned cats all my life but until we found a stray girl I had never experienced heat.  I hope never, never to experience it again.  It didn't help that another one of my cats was found as an adult and so he was neutered as an adult and he liked her very much during that time.  The only thing worse than an unsatisfied cat in heat is a satisfied cat in heat.  Waking up with your precious pets "having relations" on top of your legs is not something I'd wish on anyone.  She's fixed now, thank goodness.  I can't imagine trying to keep a cat as a pet who wasn't fixed. I don't have that much tolerance for noise.

  7. this normally will last for up to a week, it can be quite distressing for the cat also it has been known to cause illness through the stress, the best thing to do is have it spaded, easier for the cat easier for you.
