  1. If you catch the cat while it's "wetting", pick it up, swat it on the butt, put it in the litter box and say "NO" in a deep voice.

If you don't catch it in the act but feel the wet spot later, shove the cat's nose in the wet spot, swat it, say "NO" and stick it in the litter box.

If it's a male cat, you'll have to get it neutered before you can train it, as this is how male cats mark their territory.

  2. My cat did this too!  I finally figured out what the problem was.  He was upset because we had construction workers in the house.  Once he wet, he kept going in the same place and many others over and over again. Bed, Pillows, towels on the floor, couch, carpet, NIGHTMARE!  This continued long after the construction workers left.  I finally stopped it by confining the cat to the bathroom for two months and putting pee pads all over the bathroom floor.  In the meantime, I had to remove the carpet and clean whatever I could in the washing machine.  If I couldn't clean it in the washer, I had to throw it out and buy new.  When I WOULD let my cat out of the bathroom, I would monitor his every move.  After the house was good and clean again, I let him out and he didn't pee anywhere anymore.  The reason I found out WHY he did it in the first place, was that we had more work done on our condo and suddenly, he started peeing again.  Now I'm back to confining him unless supervised.  Confining him may sound cruel, but the cozy quarters actually calms their nerves when they get spooked.

I took LOTS of advise that did NOT work:

    1. Phermone plugs that go in your outlet and give off some kind of phermone scent.

    2. Pee Cleaners that supposedly make a cat not want to pee there anymore.

    3. Tin foil

    4. scolding

    5. No marking Sprays

    6. Neutering

    7. Moth balls

    8. Lemon juice

  3. Here is a little trick. Cats will return time after time to the same place whilst their urine odour is still fresh. Cats hate the scent of freshly cut oranges and absolutely despise the smell of moth balls. Try rubbing one or the other where you do not want him/her to urinate. Remember that you can not use an ammonia based cleaning product as that has the effect of replicating the cats own urine aroma. Use a chlorine based solution.

  4. needs to be neutered
