Just curious, my cat does somthing i guess you could say.. different? i can set him down anywhere in my home and drop a rubberband on the floor. For some reason he has a weird habbit of picking up the rb and bringing it right to the food bowl, drops it in and continues to eat around it. If you take it out he picks it up and brings it back right to the food bowl. over and over again with the most nonchalant attitude. Anybody else have a cat that does this. Im just curious as to why he does this?

  1. no, but my cat if you leave one out he will eat it! I saw something in litter box once and I thought it was a giant worm, come to find out if you leave one out he finds it, by smell I guess and eats the darn thing, does he l**k plastic bags, most cats do that as well,

  2. It's his favorite!  He wants to keep it with his sacred food bowl.  My old cat did that with his favorite toy mousie.  I'd be careful with a rubber band, though....I'd be afraid he'd swallow it.  Aren't kitties the cutest?

P.S.  The same cat does it with a bell he carries around that has a thick string on the end.  When we say really high-pitched ..."where's your bell?"....he lets out this distinctive meow.  I swear he knows what we're saying....and he eats around it, too. :)

  3. That's so cute. My cat does do that put she does it with scrunched up newspaper ! I'll scrunch up  a little piece of paper and throw it..what she will do is..run like crazy to get it , run back to me and drop it on my lap..(kinda like fetch ,,but with a cat :) then when she's bored she will dissapear with it! i'm like where on earth did she put it...when i go to fill up her water bowl..there it will be...! floating in her water. she does it every single time..only with scrunched up paper..oh and she likes playing with bottle tops (the plastic kind) and straws...very weird cat i have. Anyway ur cat is so cute with the rubber band thing and i can tell u ,each cat has a kind of funny quirk but ..try ur best to change the 'object' cause rubber bands can be dangerous and if she swollows it u'll have a bigger prob! hmmm well the best advise i can give u is watch him carefully while he eats..i mean check the bowl for rubber bands and remove it. Better still get rid of ur rubber bands, keep them hidden from his sight. Soon enough he'll find something else to drop in there :) Good Luck

  4. all cats are unique a cats food bowl is its temple ! a cat goes were there is food ! if your cat is fed reguarly in this house he stays lmao but the rubber band can be a bit dangerous to a kitten ! most cats take thing to there food bowls my cat reggie took my hair clip lmao ! but i would keep the band out of the kittens way my not tie the end of a bit of wool together and see what happens we dont want upset kitties !!

  5. Ok I have been working at an animal hospital over the summer with my mom and she said she doesnt know why he does this. sorry but just ABSOLUTLEY make sure he doesnt eat it. because if he does then he will have to have  a BIG surgery called an Exploritory and trust me i have watched this surgery and it is pretty big and expencive also so thtats all i have to tell you. :)

  6. I used to play hide and seek with my cat.

You don't say what experiences your cat had with rubber bands before this. That might explain why she treats them in this manner. But I've seen cats pick up stuff with their mouths and place in various places for different reasons, always doing the same thing with the same object. It depends on what they associate the object with.

  7. THAT is weird! My cats have a lot of weird quirks but not any rubber-band ones, one of my cats will drop on the floor and meaow loudly so we have to come and carry him, another one likes to hoard stuff and steals numerous items that she later hides under the couch

  8. Thats crazy I would see this post!

My cat finds my rubber bands and puts them in his water bowl  lol

    I swear, isn't that funny?

there must be some significance to it.

  9. It's because he's a cat.  Cat's are weird.  Maybe your cat has OCD?

  10. I used to have a cat who would love rubber bands, I would have one on the door to my bedroom for him to play with and as soon as I wake up he would bring it to me and start meowing. I guess cats just love rubber bands!

  11. Holy, that is so weird, my cat does the exact same thing. It's so funny. We would wait til she finishes her food to see if she trys to eat the rubber band but she doesn't. Maybe it is just what cats do.

  12. my cat does that with certain toys.  we decided it was because he loved that particular toy and did not want to loose it.  he would always know where it was. they are strange creatures...they are fun to watch.

  13. I can only answer this by asking you to start to pick up your rubberbands off the floor, and away from your cat.  If he does decide to chew or swallow it, it can cause blocked intestines and will result in a very expensive surgery or death.  My neighbor thought it was cute to let her 1 year old cat chase rubberbands when she would shoot them across the room....one day the cat started to chew and swallow a couple of them that went under the couch that she never noticed.  Two weeks later and several thousands of dollars later, she received a small ziploc bag with 4 chewed rubberbands that were lodged in the lower intestine and preventing waste from moving through the cats system.  The cat ended up dying anyway, because she didn't catch it in time...she learned her lesson the sad and horrible way.

It may be cute (or weird) - but dangerous.
