We have this female cat that every time we go near her shes fine but if you pet her she will get up and move. She never purrs and the only time she seems happy is when shes playing. How do I get her to be more friendly. Also when ever I try to just gently pet her she looks scared. Should I just avoid petting her unless she comes to me? I feel like if I ignore her it would be mean.

  1. i to have a female cat that i got at the shelter. she was only 3months old when i got here and took a good 6 months until she would let me pet her. now she sleeps on my lap all the time, very loving.

my other cat is a male and he never acted like that.

  2. many cat will show aggression after a certain of petting. recognize the warning signs in your cat and stop petting before they occur.  make sure your cat does not have an medical condition that could cause pain or irritability.  you may be able to make petting more enjoyable for your cat, or you may need to accept the fact that your cat only wishes to be near you and not touched.   change the way you pet the cat cats may prefer short small strokes.  do not give your cat any physical correction if he does turn and bite, since it may cause him to be more aggressive.  or a food treat after each stroke.

  3. Some cats like physical contact and others hate it. It looks like you have more of a cat cat... fully independent. Don't force things with her. She may come around to petting when she gets older. Instead of petting, perhaps you could buy some toys that allow you both to play together for some bonding.

  4. grab that cat and hold on to her then pet her. maybe she is scared that you or your family might do some thing to her. pet her and then give her a little treat that might help to know that is oky.

  5. get rid of that cat and get and nice big dog.

  6. Cats LIKE to be ignored, cats WANT to be ignored.. the more you ignore a cat the more loveable it becomes. The more you try to pet a cat and approach a cat and force your affection on it the more the cat will shy away. First thing I do with any cat is ignore it.. that's the fastest way to get a cat in your lap.. or a scared kitten to come to you. After that they never leave you alone lol

I just got 4 kittens and I am fostering them.. at first they were scared and shy. They had been abandoned and rescued so they were very confused! I just sat with them and sure enough after a few minutes they were all around me and within the day my nephew and I were picking them up and holding them and they were even purring!!

Number one rule with cats never ever try to make them come to you or make them let you pet them.. just sit quiet and do your own thing, if the cat wants affection he/she will come to you! Cats like to be the ones to make the first move!
