My cat who is 4 years old doesn't use the litter box all of the time..and it is happening more frequently. i haven't changed the type of litter and now i find that she keeps going in the same place..(i understand that once they wet someplace they keep going back because they smell themselves) but is there anything from a pet store that i can buy to maybe spray or put where she is going to make her not go there anymore? please help. thanks

  1. My cat is very picky and though I only have one cat, he requires 2 litter boxes.  I clean both of them at least two times a day.

You can get a black light from Petsmart for $15.  It will help you see if you really have cleaned the spot you don't want your cat to pee on again.

My advice:  2 litter boxes, cleaning product called "Kids & Pets" and a black light.

  2. The cat could have a bladder infection.....or some other health issue.

look at this website and see if it helps....

  3. Maybe your cat borred and stress in litter box

  4. All the answers are good ones.  I notice you say you haven't changed the litter?  Maybe you should...she may have started disliking it.

  5. You can buy something called Nature's Miracle.  It will take the urine smell out of where your kitty is going.  Try putting her litter box in the spot where she prefers to go.  Some cats are very, very picky about their litter boxes.  Scoop her litter daily as she may be one of those cats who hates a dirty box.  Think about it from her point of view.....would you prefer a clean toilet or a dirty one???  Some cats also stop using the litter box when urination or defecation is painful and they associate the box with the pain.  I would take her to the vet to be sure she does not have an underlying health problem like a kidney stone or urinary tract infection.

  6. Definitely take the cat to the vet. There could be something wrong her. If there's not I agree with what others have said. Changing the location or buying a new litter box might help. Does your litter box have a top? My cats really like those.

To try and stop the cat from peeing in the same place I use an air freshner. I just bought one of the glade ones, that's completely enclosed (so my pets don't get sick) and sat it on that part of the carpet. That way the cat smells the air freshner instead.

Products like Urine Gone or a baking soda mixture can be helpful to use to clean the carpet before using an air freshner as well. It all depends on the type of floor.

  7. If she runs round outside, dont worry, shes peeing and pooping outside :)

    just doing her duty

  8. well most pet strores you can find a spray that you can use on a spot that you don't want your cat to go and you just spray it where you don't want your cat to pee or go, and the problem with your cat not using the litterbox it is maybe because she is in pain and can't focus on what she is doing, maybe take her to the vet to see if she has any pain going on, but you could try taking her to the litterbox every 2 hours so she learns but that's all i can think of

  9. They make sprays for dogs. I'm not sure about cats. Have you moved the litter box? Or even bought a new litter box? If so, change it back to how it was. Try placing multiple litter boxes around the house to find out which spot she will use. Maybe what you're giving her just isn't private enough. Cats don't like to be bothered while using the litter box.

  10. yes buy a cleaner that has stuff to remove pheromones, that is the scent they leave behind when they pee even if you clean it, my male cat peed on my leather couch, stupid cat!!! and he has also peed in the fish bowl and my rose plant, on the couch i have scrubbed and sprayed and cleaned and i can't get the smell out, now i have to buy a new couch.... but if it is on the floor, then i would suggest the pheromone removing spray. also get something that will calm her down so she will feel okay sometimes they pee if they are uncomfortable, mine was peeing because of our new puppy..good luck
