Question:

My cat drinks from the sink

We just rescued a little 1 year old darling kitty from the shelter. Apparently whoever owned him before allowed her to drink from the sink, because whenever she wants water, she jumps on the counter and meows. If the water is turned on, she will drink her fill from the faucet. We have tried putting her water bowl on the counter to remind her she has water, but she insists on the sink, even though she has sniffed at the bowl. Any help?

  1. that's tough.  from my experience once a cat learns something, it's pretty loyal to that way of doing things...  i guess all you can do is stop giving in to her cries/meows.  maybe get one of those cat water bowls that constantly moves the water (i've seen them all over pet stores and online, cant think of the name though) and it could have a similiar affect and she'd like it.

my cat used to be an outside cant before i rescued him.... you should hear his cries to go outside. sometimes i want to rip my ears off....

  2. lol my kitten does the same thing! i dnt think theres rly anything we can do about it just be happy ur kittten isnt deyhdrated

  3. its perfectly normal for a cat to drink from a sink. cats crave fresh water so make sure that the water bowl is changed regularly.  drinking from a sink is a sure sign of an intelligent cat.

  4. I once knew someone who's cat drank from the toilet. Not even sneaking up on it and hitting the flusher helped, (although it was fun). Cat's know what water is and how to find it. If you keep a couple water bowls around and ignore it's whining eventually the cat will figure it out.

  5. theres nothing wrong

  6. I have two made by drink well, it also has kitty greens that grow in the water as well nice treat for the cats.  It filters the water. Pet mate also makes a similar model, there is one called a bubbler as well but it takes up some space

  7. There are water bowls you can buy at pet stores that create flowing water...they are expensive but worth it.  It keeps the water nice and fresh and is very similar to the water coming out of the sink.

I have a cat that loves to drink from the faucet, but I don't mind.  It's a nice treat for her when I turn it on and let her drink from it!

  8. He apparently likes the freshness of flowing water, as many kitties do.

Below are links for pet water fountains.  I have a Drinkwell and the cats love it.  I got my mine on eBay 8 years ago and replaced that one 2 years ago.  There was no problem with the fountain..I had a teething puppy that chewed on the cord and it shorted when water splashed on it.  I could have just replaced the pump, but chose to just replace the whole machine.  PetsMart carries the fountain, the extra water reservoirs and filters, too.  I prefer this fountain because the reservoir is good for multiple pets, I don't have to refill the fountain as often.

The other is a PetMate.  I have seen these at WalMart.  They both work the same way to provide fresh flowing water.

Purrs to you and your new kitty.

  9. there is nothing wrong.

that happened with my cat that's because cats like that water to be moving.

what you could do about that is get your cat one of this

    http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js...

    or

    http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js...

they are very similar your kitty will totally like it and its easy to use

you just plug it in and add that water  and change the filter once a while there are some really expensive but this too are cheap

i recommend you the first one. that one is the one i have for my cat
