Whenever i go up to bed, my cat follows me about a minute later and comes onto my bed. she then gets under the duvet where she purrrs, and lies down for a while, after about 5mins she gets up and goes back downstairs.

does she do this to say goodnight, to protect me, for comfort reasons????????

please i know this is a strange question but i would like proper answers, not stupid remarks

  1. aww your cat is really attached to you I would say. I think its normal she's say good night thats all. my cats come to bed with me every night and if i close the door and nicky isnt in the room with me she screams her head off until i let her in. i have very spoiled cats. they are my babies. enjoy your cat.

  2. Could be a whole host of reasons.

There's a chance that your cat has caught on to the fact that you go to bed at around a certain time and acts on it. Maybe to say 'goodnight', but chances are she does it more for her own comfort than anything else.

Or she might notice that you're not elsewhere in the house and comes to check you're still around.

  3. That doesn't sound strange at all, my little guy does the same thing.  My cat also likes to cuddle; he will use his nose and push at me until I hug him and then he settles down.  The funny part is that his purring is so loud, that I usually think that I won't be able to sleep, but before I know it I do fall asleep usually with him in my arms.  And when I wake up, he is the first thing I see.  He will be sitting there looking at me and as soon as he sees that I am awake, he will jump on me.  He has always been a super affectionate cat; he always comes when I call and I always find him waiting for me at door when I come home.  He's quite a character and I love him to pieces.

And your cat loves you; that is why she follows you to bed, to make sure you're safe.  Most people don't give cats enough credit in the love department when compared to dogs.  But I have had cats all of my life and they are as affectionate and protective in their own way as any dog - they just have a different way of showing it.

  4. Cat behavior is mysterious. They're agile and sneaky. He probably robs you while you're asleep. I'm a cat doctor, I know.

  5. That's cute. Sounds like she's warming up your bed for you! Doesn't matter why she does it, it's adorable.

  6. Your cat rocks! It treats you way better than how my girlfriend treats me

  7. Yes, she's settling you in for the night. CUTE!

  8. aww thats cute :) I think it might be because he is showing his love to you and he thinks your bed is comfy XD

  9. does you cat rub it's head against you. the cat seems to be marking territory. or maybe when you go to expect it might be expecting something to happen like getting fed. the cat would then purr and wait.

  10. That's perfectly normal behavior for a cat, it means she likes you.

We have a small herd of cats. One likes to come to bed with us and lay on top of one of us (she switches off) for about ten minutes or so, then she goes to the foot of the bed or leaves the room.

Another likes to come in and "make muffins" on my shoulder for a few minutes before leaving the room.

One climbs to the top of a shelf and waits until we go to sleep then jumps down and leaves the room.

Last night one came in, walked on top of me from my knees to my shoulder, then up onto the headboard where she proceeded to knock down everything she could find (she was ejected from the room).

Our youngest likes to snuggle up next to my wife's head and purr loudly.

One likes to snuggle with me only if I lay down to take a nap while the sun is still up.

And we never know who is going to be sharing the bed with us in the morning.

  11. Cats have minds of their own and I don't think anyone is ever going to know just what a cat is thinking without really knowing the cat.

I would say yes, she is coming in to say goodnight, tuck you in, make sure you're ok, etc.

I wish I could sleep with my cats! My partner won't let them into our room though. You are very lucky to have such a loving and dedicated kitty.
