My cat is eating less and losing hair and she looks a little bit skinnier. She was in heat the whole summer could that be why she is skinner? We also switched the food and it has been 100+ the whole summer. We have other cats and they are eating less and losing hair too (i think its bc its been so hot) but they havent lost any weight. Im really worried and i can't go to the vet til about a week but i am going to for sure. Could it be something serious?

  1. it is just because it is hot my cat does the same thing every summer

  2. Hi, please take your cats to the vet ASAP, about 2 years ago my cat Lilly started losing just a little weight, lost just a little more hair and started not being as energetic, I took her to (a different vet than my normal one), he said he was fine, six months went past and Lilly was not getting any better, I took her again and she had tests - which said nothing, then the vet said we will operate and see whats going on, Lilly went to heaven that day because she had tumours all along her intestine.  The vet said he could not do anything, better to let her go.  Your cats might be fine - and I hope they are, but if you think there is something wrong then (as their keeper) you know best.

  3. try to see if she has a tumor under her tongue. You are lucky if she doesn't. Either way take her to a vet.

  4. I think this could be serious you should find a place where you can bring you cat(s) immediately.

  5. My cat had the same problem and when I took him to the vet they tested his thyroid and found the problem.  Apparently that is common and losing weight and losing hair is a good sign.  I think it is hyperthyroidism... either that or hypo. you would have to look which one it is that they lose weight, not gain.  Anyways, he is on a daily medication which sucks and even now they dont think it is the right dosage.  If it is her thyroid and you dont take care of it, she will die or have kidney failure.  Get the test done!

  6. its probably allergic to the food

  7. Most all cats shed in summer and and lose weight, they don't eat as much cause, perhaps they are catching there meal at night hunting.

You didn't mention if they are inside cats or outside?

If they are outside and are in the heat a lot then perhaps this could be some of the problem.

But, if they are inside cats this could be a serious problem, even though they will shed hair anyway outside or not!

  8. i dont know how much anyone on here can really tell you about the severity of your cats condition, but if you have an appointment in a week for your cat you should just keep really close attention to cat, besides watching its eating habits watch what it does around the house, like if its sleeping more and not interacting with your other cats as much as usual or something, also it might be hard to keep track of but see if they are going to the bathroom and stuff.

its just good to keep an eye out for these kinds of things that way when you bring your cat the the vet you have as much information as possible

ps. im not a doctor and am just basing this on my knowledge with my own cats, but it doesnt seem like something serious because ALL of your cats havent been eating as much... and what are the chances that they are ALL sick yah know, it could just be something as small as all your cats are eating less then normal but the one you are concerned about it eating even less than them, or maybe the cat isnt drinking as much so besides not eating he/she is dehydrated and that can make you lose weight.

anyways, sorry this is so long lol. try not to worry too much, and i hope your cat gets better :D

  9. your cat is depressed.
