this because of the spaying while pregnant? She grooms herself and she has caused sores to appear. I'm thinking that the grooming has to do with the sores. My vet has given her a methylprednisolone (depo-medrol) shot which helps for about a month but she thinks my cat might be allergic to something, possibly her food. My cat now needs to go on special food to see if this might be the problem - I still think it's the grooming on bare skin. Can anyone help me since this food is very expensive? Thank you.

  1. My cat Sophie was spayed about 3 years ago, and had the same thing happen, her fur has still not grown back...never found out why, it just makes her unique!!!

  2. How long ago was the surgery? Maybe it is just growing back slowly?

But it is possible. When pregnant, all sorts of hormonal things are happening. Spaying during the pregnancy can sort of mess with the way the hormones are acting out. And because hair growth is affected very much by hormonal levels, that definitely would be linked.

This is why many vets urge to wait until after th pregnancy. Something like thisoccurringg is not very common, but the risk is there.

Then again if an allergy came up, this might be causing both thehair losss and the sores. Again, the hormonal imbalance might have been what caused a sudden allergy. Try what your vet recommends for a couple of weeks, and see if anything improves. Hope she'll get better.
