before the mama(dixie) was pregnant, her and my other kitten were best friends and then when she got pregnant she was always growling at the little one (mila) and pretty much scaring her off. but now that dixie had her kittens will she still be just as mean to mila? also will mila try to hurt the kittens or try and nurse off dixie? (when we first brought mila home she would try and nurse off dixie because she was so young but she stopped after a few weeks)

i have dixie in the bathtub with the kittens but i really want her in my room, the only thing is mila needs access to my room. so when would it be a safe time to move them? if at all.

im new to all this so any answers are better than none!

  1. I would not move kittens for several days.  The mother will move them on her own.  Bathtub bad place though.  Need a place where mother cat has complete contact with them and where she can get in and out of easily.  Try placing them in a shallow, open box full of rags.  Do not handle them with your bare hands.  Use cloth or gloves to keep your scent off of them.  Mila should be just fine with new kittens.

  2. Yes, Dixie will still be like that towards Mila because she feels like she is protecting her kittens. Nothing to worry, just about every cat does this. When the kittens have all grown up, Dixie will back to her normal self.

Here's a website that I thought that might help.

    Good luck!

  3. Congrats on your new kittens, Mila is just going to be curious about the new Kitty's, sounds and smells, when my dutchess  had her kittens,Milan my other female was very curious about what was going on. mama cat will make sure that her babies are safe she will let the other cat know if  shes getting out of bounds.  but still keep an eye on mila when mama is not with the kittens,  just to be safe.

as far as were to put her and the kittens, mama needs some privicy so try putting a box with towels or a blanket in it, a door cut out in a place were she can come and go ease and have some privicy, bathroom is to busy a place exspecial if it is the only bathroom.  sometimes a closet works if you can keep the door a jar. My cat liked under my bed when she had her kittens.

When the kittens get older Mila might even start playing with them, that's what happened with mine.  Make sure when they are a couple of days old  that you handles the kittens do it when mom is there don't remove them far away and reasure mama when you are doing this, if mama will let you it will make them better socialized when it comes time to give them new homes.

  4. The mama cat will probably move the kittens, ah, kinda inconvient having them in the bathtub unless you have another bathroom..All of the birthing mess should be over by now, If you have to, find a nice quiet, lowly lit place for mama and the kittens, keep the other kitten away from her as she will probably be agressive towards it, to protect her babies...
