it looks like she wants to play with them but she pounces on them and at times bites them to the point where they'll squeal a couple of times before she lets go but within a few seconds, she's doing it again. is this normal?

she hasn't drawn blood and the kittens don't seem afraid of her, but i worry that she may hurt them.

  1. Mom is teaching them important lessons on what it feels like to be bitten, strengthening their muscles, and beginning the weaning process. She sounds like a good kitty mom who is doing right by her babies. It looks much worse than it is and it will get worse looking when she starts completely weaning them. make sure to let the kittens stay with her till at least 8 weeks old so she can fully teach them the things they need to know to be good adult cats. Please make mom an appointment to be spayed in about 2 weeks and until then keep her inside and away from any intact males.

  2. I was told thats how she teaches them to defend them selfs and how to play,,,if she wanted to hurt them she would have done it when they were born

    best of luck

  3. my moms a vet and she says that your cat isn't taking care of the kittens and you should take the kittens away from their mom or she will hurt them she isn't teaching them anything

  4. If the kittens are playing with mom (biting her) sometimes the mom has enough and put the smack down on the kittens to show them who's boss.  My mother cat would do this when the kittens got too rough.  4weeks they are just learning all kinds of things even starting to stray away from mom.  I guess watch what the kittens are doing before the mom does this to see if it's warranted or not.
