I can hear rattling when she breathes through her nose. Her eyes look fine and she is doing fine otherwise and eating, She just has a stuffy nose and she isn't sneezing anymore. Had it for 2 weeks and been getting amoxcicillin mixed in her food. What can I give her to get rid of it. or do I need to take her to the doctor.

  1. I'd suggest bringing her back in to the vet. She may need another run of antibiotics. Sometimes it takes more than one to do the trick, or switching to a stronger one, esp if the cat has feline herpes going on or anything (it's one of the more usual respiratory viruses). the antibiotics don't generally "cure" a cold, but they do help prevent secondary infections from setting in or help to clear up potential bacterial infections.

in the meantime, try steaming her nasal passages open...put her in the bathroom & run the hot shower for 15-20 mins a few times a day. it'll work like a vaporizer & should help open things a little so she can breathe better.

  2. It's most likely an Upper Respiratory infection. Most just have to run it's course.. it's viral and there is no "cure" only treatment. Steam treatments can help just bring kitty into a steamy bathroom. Also make sure to clean her eyes and nose daily with warm wet cloths. If it's not better in 2 weeks I'd take her to the vet, she may need medication to fight off secondary bacterial infection. Make sure she is eating properly, sometimes when cats get stuffy noses they lose their appetite you can slightly warm up canned food to stimulate her appetite and I also find this seems to help when you feed them wet food while they are ill. My cat Peter car URI when I found him and took him in.. I fed him wet food until he was better, and for a while the vet gave me Clavamox to help him out but it didn't do much just helped him fight off any other infection. He still has minor breathing difficulties but has never had a relapse..

  3. Try looking at:

and see what advice they can give you.

  4. I have the same issue with my cat, maybe she didn't enough amoxcicillin so the entire infectionwasn't totally cleared up. I think a fullowup phone call to your vet is needed, maybe they could givre another week of the medication.
