My cat has been sneezing since I got her; help, and how can I fix it?

My cat Angel is a Burmese mix. We found her many years ago hanging out with our cats, and she was skinny and had a kitty collar on (though she must have been at least four). We took her in.

But, I had always noticed that she tended to sneeze once or twice a day (that is, from what I noticed). She is now old, and has a graying muzzle. Do you know if this is and Upper Respiratory Infection, if it is serious, and if we can do anything to help? Because we have recently moved and do not have the extra money right now for the vet.

  1. Cats get a whole bunch of upper respiratory ailments, like common colds.  They usually aren't serious, appear when they're stressed or exposed to other cats, and will go away on their own.  Occasionally they are caused by bacteria or lead to secondary bacterial infections, in which case antibiotics by the vet would help.  Otherwise, as long as she isn't dehydrated, doesn't have eye discharge (eye infections can lead to corneal ulcers), and doesn't have trouble breathing...you can just give her plenty of food and water and wait it out.  Sometimes canned food or meat baby food will help keep them eating, because they can't smell as well and cats tend to not eat when they can't smell.

  2. I was at the vet this morning with 2 foster kittens who have been sneezing.  The vet said as long as they are eating and drinking there is no cause for alarm, their temperature was fine.

  3. It sounds like she has the para virus. You had better get her to the vet. She sounds like she picked up the (contagious flu) that often happens to pets when they are at kennels or around other strays. It is very serious and she needs medication.

When pets are first brought into kennels they usually give them the inhallent to help prevent this immediately. When you go for the yearly check up they give the innoculation which puts the immunization into their blood stream and works great as a preventative. Without medical care your pet could became very ill.

The care is not that costly but you need to go now rather than wait. If you wait too long it could become very costly to help your cat.  Once you get to the vets office they may reduce the cost and/or work out a payment plan if you have a credit card where they could make weekly or monthly charges to pay off the bill.

  4. My cat did that when we first got him a year ago and the sneezing has not stopped completely but its gotten a lot better. I don't think there's anything wrong, I mean humans sneeze and there's nothing wrong with us (unless we have a cold).

  5. Look up some stuff online why your cat may be sneezing, or see if one of your friends or a close by family member can help, because it may be serious it may not be. It shouldn't cost too much money, but since you recently moved, it can be hard.

    Hope this helped=) Good luck!
