  1. the cheapest way to try to help your cat is to just go to the cat aisle at your local walmart or target and you can buy a flea collar for your cat.  This would help for longer than just a spray.  However, if fleas are really rampant in your house then a flea collar alone isn't going to help that much.

You and your mom might be able to really get rid of the fleas with over the counter sprays and meds  if you team up and wash everything made of fabric that you can wash, and spray eveything you can't wash after treating the animals.  And then just keep flea collars on them to avoid this again.  You can do it....Good luck.

  2. Have you given her a flea bath? This is what you need to do. It MIGHT fix the problem. Take the pets and people out use a flea bomb to get rid of fleas in the house. When it's done, immediately bathe the cat and the dofg in a good flea shampoo. It wouldn't hurt to then put on fleas collars, and spray them. I think Hartz makes a good spray. You can get it at walmart.  You can also go to a Petco or Petsmart or call a vet to get their advice. You don't say where you live, but we had terrible fleas when I lived down south (Georgia and Louisiana). The best thing down there is to get the prescription.

  3. A flea comb and constant vacuuming are two of your best allies.  When you find a flea when you comb them, you have to pop them with your thumbnail. They don't die due to a swatting.  Vacuum several times a day and give a short shot of Raid or something like that into the bag before you turn it off to kill the ones you have vacuumed up.

It will work to a small degree but if you put a large pan of water with some dishsoap in it on the floor and then put a desk lamp over the pan at night when the rest of the house is dark, it will attract fleas who land in the water and then drown because the soap breaks the water tension.

Fleas reproduce with wicked speed so actually getting them Advantage or other chemical that I normally don't like to suggest is not a bad idea in this case.

IMPORTANT:  Do not use flea meds designed for dogs on cats.  It can kill your cat.  The chemicals are very different for each animal.

  4. well when my dog had flees i went to a local pet store and got a flee comb

  5. Call a local SPCA, ask for the name of a cat rescue in the area, or call a local vet office and tell them this.  Someone will steer you to someone DECENT enough to help you.

Your mother should know better.  Tell her this is a form of cruelty to animals. NOTHING is worse than  itching, suffering, etc.

Look up PETA, People for ethical treatment of animals.

    Flea meds are not expensive.

If you let this go on, you are as bad, or worse than your mother, because you know better.

There are lots of ways to find help.  I would rather see you steal a store flea product thaan see your pet suffer!

Get busy and take care of your responsibilities, or give the cat away to someone who cares!!!

  6. I have the same question...i just posted it.lol...SOMEBODY PLEASE ANSWER!!!

  7. Well look on the internet to see about a home remedy but you need to give the cat a bath (eek) with special flea shampoo

Well or ujst buy it  (its only like $12)

    Heres the steps

Make sure that the defleaing shampoo you have is not only extremely mild, but is designed for kittens. Kittens are frail and if you use normal cat shampoo, you will hurt your kitten's eyes.

Wear an apron and clothes you don't mind about as you are likely to get wet.

Wash the kitten in a plastic hand-wash basin.

Use lukewarm water. Water that you would consider comfortable could scald a kitten. Make sure the water is not too deep, just deep enough that your kitten can stand easily.

Hold your kitten firmly, but gently, in the water and begin to pour water over him/her. Avoid its eyes and ears (unless you put cotton balls in kitty's ears).

Start with a small amount of shampoo in your hand and slowly begin to lather the kitten gently (adding water to aid lathering if needed). Shampoo must get right to the skin.

Make sure that no shampoo gets onto the kitten's face or into the kitten's eyes, nose or mouth.

    Rinse off the kitten.

Depending on the strength of the shampoo, you may have to lather the cat again (The bottle should have clear instructions).

Dry your kitten very well with a towel, as he/she does not like to be soaking wet. Kittens are usually afraid of hair dryers.

Give your kitten a treat or praise after his/her horrible wet experience, as most kittens hate or fear water.

Make sure you wash it extra good =]

  8. We no longer have any pets ... but I use to wash my kittens with Johnsens baby shampoo. It's very mild ( there is actually no soap in it ) but it kills off fleas  ... how old is your cat?

  9. What I use for my cat is called Program. You mix it up in your pet's food and they eat it. You give it to them once a month, and it prevents fleas from being able to reproduce. It won't kill fleas, but they can't reproduce. It's kind of expensive...in a way. It's $50 for 6 months I think, but it works so well. You can get it on 1-800-petmeds.com. Really, we had a crazy infestation of fleas, I started giving it to my cat and I haven't had any problems since. Hope this helps

  10. Get your cat and dog flea collars and by flea bombs from somewhere like walmart. We just had a problem with that at our own house. Fleas jumping all over us! We had an exterminator come eventually but they're still here a bit. Well, when you bomb the house, you have to remove your pets, put your food away in safe places in cupboards and open any drawers or closets you'd like to be free of fleas. Also you should leave for maybe an hour and a half, its toxic. Once the fleas in the house are dead, bring your animals back and buy a flea shampoo and wash them both up very well, keep their flea collars on and that should do it!

  11. Are you vacuuming every few days?  You may get rid of the fleas for a day or 2 but then the eggs all in your carpet hatch and they come back.  You need to spray, get them flea collars and vacuum alot.  make sure you empty the vacuum outside right after or they will hatch in the canister and still get out.  If it's a bagged vacuum stick a flea collar in the bag too.

  12. The answer is in your question.. a prescription medication.  That's it, pure and simple.

You are not going to get on top of fleas with over the counter stuff or home remedies.

Sorry it's not the answer you want, but it is the only answer there is!
