We adopted a cute little 8 week old kitten. He is a mix of cats. Anyway, he has the super long, hard whiskers. We have had him for about a week now. His whiskers are breaking because they are so long. Is it normal for some cats to have hard whiskers?

  1. YES

The whiskers are actually modified hairs.  They will shed like hairs, and also like hairs, they can not feel if they are cut, but they have special follicles in the skin that can feel when they bend.  they have to be stiff for the ability to "feel" with them.

  2. the kittens fine all kittens/cats shed fur, loose whiskers and their dead claws break off.

    which off all grow back

  3. Yes, some of my kitten's whiskers are very stiff too. Plus, it is normal for kittens' whiskers to break often, as they play so hard. Don't worry; they'll grow back.
