Question:

My cat has irritable bowel syndrome

We went to the vet who diagnosed it. The vet said I should start food trials - feed my cat the same thing every day for 4-6 weeks (no treats, etc) to see if it would go away.

Any suggestions on what to feed my cat first? All the websites I've looked at suggest home cooking the food for my cat, which frankly is not going to happen. I'd rather feed him something commercially prepared if possible.

Thanks!!

  1. Go with a grainless canned food.  Choose any from the link below.

That's the closest you can come to a raw diet in a can.

  2. The vet should have sold you a prescription diet made for this purpose.  We use IVD/Royal Canin HE of Limited Ingredient or Hill's z/d.  You can't find these foods over the counter in pet stores, and cooking is very difficult as you need to be sure of your vitamin, mineral, and nutrient balances.

  3. Hi

You have unfortunately probably been feeding dry foods

You need to either switch to canned foods with no grains or as little as possible or a raw diet where there are no grains at all.

What you also want to do is cut down on the fats

A human grade quality canned food like Merrick or wellness with chicken breast added would be great.

Diet plays a huge part in most IBD cats, If a  no grain diet doesn't do the trick,

A novel protein like rabbit, vennison ect with no grains,

For a raw diet which is the best choice, you can buy something like nature's variety or you can make your own
