My cat has scratced my BIRD (cockateal) an we dnt no what to do !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!please help

ok my cat scractched my bird a few inchches away from her haert n she keeps picking at it.....n we cant put medicine on cuz she will eat it ........

PLEAZ HELP ME

Call the vet. She may require an antibiotic.

Take your bird to the vet immediately.  Cats carry the pasteurella bacteria in their saliva and on their claws and it is FATAL to birds without treatment.  Please call your vet NOW.

A) Don't let your bird pick at it, that would probably make the wound even worse if she does keep picking at it. B) Get your bird to a vet as quickly as possible because she might need shots to prevent the wound from getting infected(and sorry to scare you like this) or worse C) And in the future, keep your cat away from your bird.

Ok. Relax. The bird needs to be taken to avian vet in the first 24 hours after being scratched or bit by cat or dog as the bacteria can be toxic. Remain calm as the bird picks up on your nerves and will only make matters worse. Is she bleeding? If so keep her quite and warm and get her to vet. The vet will most likely clean it up and give her some oral medication or a shot that will help her. Do not put antibiotic cream on it as it will mess her feathers and she will eat it and may get sick or just may make the wound worse. If your vet is closed try ER vet or call wildlife rehabber for info on what to do. They will not see pet bird but can offer other information to you. Good luck

Avian vet now!  Emergency clinic if you can't get into the regular one immediately!  Without professional medical care, cat attacks are quickly fatal to birds because of the bacteria in the cat's saliva and also on its claws!
