Question:

My cat has tangels . Help!?

my cat has these big tangels in his fur,

I know sometimes it's normal, but I feel bad

For him because I'm sure if pressure gets put on it

It probably hurts him. Should I shave his fur where they are?

Because they're so bad that they won't untangle or fall out overtime

And I think taking him to the groomers would be good, because he doesent behave well out of the house with othher people

What should I do?

  1. use some small hair trimmers and cut the hair, it will grow back , jsut keep it groomed better next time. and you can get some great hair conditioner for pets also, good luck!

  2. Is he overweight? Overweight cats have certain spots that they cannot groom themselves since the extra fat is hindering them from reaching it.

  3. If you do it, there is a high probability that you will end up cutting the cat. When I worked as a vet tech, I saw several dogs and cats come in with cuts and razor burn all over them due to amateurs trying to solve the problem. I would definitly take him to a groomer, and if give consent for sedation if it is necessary. Then try to maintain a smooth coat with daily brushing.

  4. my cat always gets knots on his back, so we just clip them out. i took him to the vet(not because of the knots), and the lady pulled them out with her hand. it didn't seem like it hurt him, but i'd feel horrible if i did that.

  5. If he's uncomfortable with you cutting them off with scissors, it's sad to say, but you have to shave the spots where they are.

  6. Himalayans and Persian breeds have this problem, very common. Solution is regular brushing, if you don't have the time, have him/her shaved every other month, keeping the hair too short to tangle. Johnson and Johnson makes a spray in product called "No more tangles" aimed at little girls, but works great on pets, too. This will help you comb out the tangles, but they may need shaved off if they are too bad. There are excellent groomers out there, and your kitty can be asleep while he is shaved, no stress. *Be sure to check out recommended groomers in your area* (unfortunately, there are also bad ones). Also, the vets in this area will shave kitties, too, while they are asleep, you may want to check with your vet, too. It's a slight sedative that they use, and has little side effects, so don't be scared.  I shave my Sis's Himalayan every other month, since it is indoors year round, and it works...little shedding in the house, too.
