My cat has turned crazy! Can anyone help me?

My cat is over a year old male and is fixed. I just moved a little over a month ago and since then he has become ridiculously hyper. He is constantly running around in between the curtains, into the glass sliding door and up and down the sofa. He has also started to hiss at people who come to visit that he hasn't met before. I can't sleep at night cause if I close my door he scratches at it and if I don't answer he'll start to scratch on my roommates bedroom door and she is a super light sleeper. I work during the day so I can't stay home with him and play with him. Does anyone have any suggestions that might help calm him down?

  1. Cats get stressed in a move like people do.  There may be something in the home that the cat doesn't like and is trying to tell you.  If you cannot get the cat to stop, talk to your vet & see what they think.

  2. He is probably upset from the move, you may need to confine him to your room when you are gone. leave all his things, toys, water, food and litter box with him. He will feel safer in a smaller environment. Try getting some of the spray pheromones like Feliway and follow the directions on the bottle. If he hasn't calmed down in a few days a trip to the vet is advisable. Good Luck

  3. I know what you're dealing with, as I just moved across country.  My cats were extremely hyper for the first week.  They met new people while we had them boarded cause we didn't have a 'pet friendly' place.  My cats were fine, in fact, the vet and the helpers LOVED them!  It may just be the cat trying to adjust to the new place.  Spend some time with your cat and watch the cat carefully.  The cat will adjust, just give them time, new area means that they have to make the place their own.

  4. I'll go with Nancy--he might just be freaked out a little.  Try keeping him closed up in the day, but try to snuggle him when you are home!
