Question:

My cat has worms - advice?

My husband just noticed and removed a very small worm from the r****m of our cat. We saved it to take with us to the vet in the morning. I'm wondering what kind of worm it is, how she could have gotten it, and other than taking her to the vet in the morning, what we should do? The worm was very small - about a 1/4 inch long and white in color. She is an indoor cat - she never goes outside. We only feed her Iams cat food, and we use Feline Pine litter (the pellets). Ideas, suggestions? Should we pay the extra fee to take her to the vet tonight or is it ok to wait until tomorrow morning? Also, I have 2 other cats - should I be concerned about them? They are up to date on all their shots and check-ups.

  1. She might have gotten something from your  other cats if they Go outdoors. Or, it could be a mess- up type thing that food brands can do.

I would also say that you should always  concerned in your other cats

    Have  a nice day!

  2. It sounds like a tapeworm to me. Which is caused by ingesting a flea. It is very easily treated. Take the sample to the vet to make sure that is the type of worm and they will give you some medicine to kill the worms.

  3. Absolutely you can wait until tomorrow.  The vet may want to treat the other cats as a precaution.  Don't worry about it though.  If there are no other symptoms you caught it quick enough.

  4. take your cat in the morning and if i were you i would also take your other cats to the vet to just incase but if your cat is sick and like throwing up take it tonight. but if not tomarow

  5. The cat needs to be dewormed. They are probably gonna want a sample.....They get them from eating fleas. None of your cats go outside? Ever?

  6. Some kitties are born with worms. It usually just requires one pill given by the vet and it clears up.

  7. Bring the worm and bring a stool sample to the vet with your kitty.  The vet can test what types of worm(s) the kitty has.  Based on that they'll be able to tell you how likely it is that the others are infected.

As long as your kitty isn't acting sick, going tomorrow should be fine.

Off hand, it sounds like tapeworms.  They get those from eating infected fleas (probably while bathing themselves).  They need to be treated by the vet but they aren't horrible or anything to get really upset about (just gross). If it is tapeworms then they probably won't want to treat the other cats unless you see evidence that the others have them too.  Tapeworms only spread through fleas, not from cat to cat.  So unless there have been serious flea infestations, there's a decent chance no other cats have them.

  8. heart worm most likely. See a vet and yes it could kill the cat

  9. In this economy...you should open a bait shop! Seriously though... your kitty will be fine until tomorrow.

  10. It probably is a round worm it is normal for baby kittens.

She will need a few doses of Strongid(wormer)  about 1cc per five pounds, you can buy from a vet.Give about 4 times every week or so.(untill worms are gone)

Your other cats should be fine.
