I've started brushing my cat's choppers about 2 weeks ago and it's been very difficult. I purchased a small child's toothbrush with a small head and used aquafresh for about a week. She absolutely detests it! She gets very violent and starts making funny noises and hisses all the time. We used to be the best of friends and now she avoids me and hisses at me when ever we see each other. I switched to childrens toothpaste, but that didn't work, she is still as angry as ever. Having her rinse is the hardest part of all! I really miss my cat but she won't go near me anymore.. Please help!!! Also--I don't want to use those dental biscuits, I was told they dont work!!! I just want my cat to have healthy teeth and good breath!!!

  1. Don't fret about your cat's teeth to the point you scare her / poison her!  :o)

If you have a local vet, see if they can get hold of free samples of feline t/d diet for you. They are like biscuits but don't shatter when the cats bite on them like normal cat biscuits, they help to scrape the calculus off their teeth! If you've no local vet try the Hill's helpline 0800 282438

PS How do you know something doesn't work if you haven't tried it?! I have 2 of my cats on t/d & they're doing great!

  2. Yeah..I have a cat. you should NEVER use human toothpaste on a cat!! No one the poor thing hates you!! Its gonna die soon and all u care about is making sure he has clean teeth?! TAKE UR CAT TO A VET to get its teeth clean. ur not a vet so dont even tryy!! PLEASE take your poor cat to the vet!! :[

  3. I do too.

Just brush with water.  It's the brushing that removes the tarter not the paste.

Do not use human toothpaste on a cat.

they have cat toothpaste that is suppose to tase like meat.

  4. Never ever use regular toothpaste on your pet.  It's dangeous for them.  You need to purchase special toothpaste at the pet store or at your vets.  Instead of using a toothbrush, try just using your finger or a very soft washcloth.  Your vet can recommend special cat food that helps clean teeth.  It works.

  5. No, your not suppose to brush an animals teeth with human toothpaste it can make them sick your very mad at you which you've been experencing. There is a special toothpaste for animals and a special toothbrush you can use. But I would recommend that you just take your kitty to the vet and have them do it. It's easier on your cat and your self.

  6. dental biscuits wont work!?!....and i suppose you were told this by the same person that told you to use human toothpaste too right?...you cannot give human toothpaste to a cat....you're not even supposed to give it to children....they make dental kits for cats that cost around $10....type dental hygiene for cats into your search engine and you will find a multitude of information on this

  7. wooooow.. you are an idiot!... cats CANNOT have human toothpaste! You need some medical attention, and you should also NEVER have kids, and never have another animal... bring your poor cat to the shelter so they can find her a better home.

Actually, after reading your previous questions.. especially the one about your female dog that was in heat..letting her "tramp" around town looking for new partners.. lady, you are an animal ABUSER! and should be reported to the ASPCA!

  8. Dear God - the world is full of lunatics.  Is there anyone out there who actually thinks it would be a good idea to PURCHASE A BOOK ABOUT CATS before getting one?????

  9. You need to go to the vets and have them clean the teeth, you do not use human toothpaste on a cat it could make her sick and if you keep doing it she will no longer trust or like you.

  10. ummm, yeah.... your not supposed to do that. take it to the vet, they will clean the cats teeth.

  11. I'd be pissed too if I had foamy c**p like that in my mouth..

everyone's said what I was going to say but

PLEASE make sure the things you use to make your cat healthy is safe for your cat.. the best way is too see your vet and get a cleaning.. brushing your cat's teeth with a CAT toothpaste (which doesn't foam and tastes good to the cat)will help maintain good health.. I've gotten mixed answers about those treats..so I'd go with vet plus brushing w/cat toothpaste..

EDIT: pet's don't need their teeth flossed.. a cleaning and brushing will do :) ..

are you a new pet owner?.. not trying to be rude ;)

  12. That's because you are using toothpaste that can make your cat very ill!  You aren't supposed to use HUMAN toothpaste!!  Pet stores sell appropriate toothpaste for cats, please go and get some.  It's admirable that you are taking the responsibility of dental care for your cat, but you really should have asked your vet how about doing it, and the appropriate products.

Dental treats do work - that's why they make them.  So does Friskies Dental Diet (just add to your dry food).  As for their breath - they aren't humans, they will have breath that isn't minty fresh.  To help with excessive odorous breath, chop a tiny amount of fresh parsley and add it to the cat's food.

Please stop using human products on animals - it is unsafe, and unhealthy.
