My cat is a fussy eater!!!?

i have a cat that has just turned 1, since she was a kitten she has always been a fussy eater!!!!

i end up throwing so much food away cos she sniffs at it then walks away and leaves it to dry up..... she eats the dry food (hills science plan), but is so picky about her food....

i don't buy her the cheap stuff either...... i have tried her with whiskers... all the different flavours (such as oh so meaty, steamed, oh so fishy and so on) felix, aplaws, ONE natural balance, and even some cheaper brands...

sometimes i think i have cracked it and she will start eating the food and clean the bowl..... then after a few days she gets bored and starts sticking her nose up at it!!!!!

i probably end up throwing away 60% of the food!!!!!

she is at a healthy weight and does eat. when i took her to the vets last they said she was fine..... and she has been like this her whole life!!!!

sometimes i put treats on her food if she hasn't eaten the wet food all day and she might eat it.... or at least eat the treats off it!!!!

i also only put a little bit out at a time now otherwise it wastes more...

my other cat eats fine....... he isn't picky and eats whatever is put down.

does anyone else have a cat like this????

does anyone have any tips on how to get her to eat the food???

  1. hills science isn't exactly good food.

scan through the ingredients, there shouldn't be any

-by products, they are the leftovers stuff that isn't fit for human consumption like chicken by products may be the feet, beaks, feathers etc

-Grains like barley, corn, rice etc cats are carnivores! feed grains and they go in and come out virtually unchanged. you're wasting your money

    - BHA, BHT, they are cancer causing preservatives, need i say more?

-Colourings and flavourings, why in the world would your cat care if her food is yellow, pink or red? anyway, they are merely toxins that build up in the body

twice a day, you leave the food down. 15 minutes later, remove it regardless of whether she ate it or not. you can add some luke warm water into her food to bring out the smell or mix in some canned food. eventually she'll eat them, be patient :)

  2. I wouldn't worry too much. I have 2 cats, my male cats wolfs down his wet food and just nibbles on dry food during the day. My female cat only has a mouthful of the male cats food about twice a week and eats dry food the rest of the time. Both are perfectly healthy - I just think the female prefers dry food to wet food. As long as your cat is eating something (either wet or dry) then I wouldn't worry too much. If you are putting treats on top of the food sometimes and then you put some food out without treats, she might be holding out to see if you put treats on. As long as there are no signs of ill health (not eating anything/losing weight) I wouldn't worry :)
