  1. Whiskas isn't exactly good food. you should try brands without byproducts (which are leftover parts of an animal that are not fit for human consumption), fillers (like corn that is in the ingredients list because they are cheap, cats don't actually digest them, they don't have the ability to do so anyway, so all those grains like rice, wheat and corn go in and out virtually unchanged), colourings and flavouring (cancer causing) and BHT and BHA (cancer causing preservatives).

Better brands like Innova Evo, Serengeti Timberwolf would be wiser choices as they are grain-free therefore is more value for money as you know they are absorbing what they are eating.

    Hope that helped :)

  2. try different brands of food. just like humans, some foods do not agree with them.

  3. I was always told to keep kittens on kitten food for the first year, then change to adult food.  While I don't know much about the differences between kitten food and adult, I do know there are more calories in the kitten food because they burn up more energy in a day's time.  Kitten food might put additional weight on an adult cat.  Try feeding them in opposite parts of the house and taking the food up with they're through.  I have to do that with my cats because one is a really slow eater, the other is a hog and will eat her own food, then rush over to eat the other one's food if given the chance.

  4. Try  mixing a little bit of adult cat food into it, every day a little at a time. and soon she/he will get used to the food.

  5. Many high quality foods, like Evo that dyllis mentioned are for all life stages so they would be perfect for both your kitties.

Info about Evo and some other high quality, no grain foods is on their website: http://www.naturapet.com/default.asp  There are other good companies as well.

Anything from the grocery store is going to contain lots of fillers, things cats can't properly digest.  Cats don't need corn and by-products are just nasty, even for an animal who washes it's butt with its tongue.

That said, they need to be switched slowly.  Mix the food together adding a little more of the new food each time.

Many cats still grow a little after the first year, so it's not bad for them to have kitten food for longer but if your other cat is gaining weight then that could be a reason to switch early if you have to.

    Specifically toward your questions:

    1. It's not great but if she isn't packing on a lot of weight I wouldn't be too concerned.  I would try to discourage her from eating it though.  But I know how tough that can be.

    2. Evo, now.  Switch them both to it slowly.  It's for cats and kittens, so there's no reason to wait.  I think if you read the ingredients for the Whiskas then read the ingredients for Evo you'll be very aware of the difference.  And try to give them some wet food too, it helps make sure they get enough water and it's better.  The stuff used to hold kibble together isn't good for cats, no matter how high quality the cat food is.

  6. In answer to your first question, no, kitten food given long term to an adult cat isn't good for them as kittens have different dietary needs to an adult cat. You can still feed your 10 month old kitten kitten food up until she's 12 months old, but I would definitely start looking for a good quality adult wet food now and introduce it in small amounts mixed in with the kitten food she is currently eating. Remember to increase the adult food slowly daily over a 2 week period until only adult food is being given to her and i would do the same for your 2 year old as she may find going back to adult food too quickly a bit harsh on her tummy too.

In answer to your second question, the best type of food is a high protein low carbohydrate wet food make such as Innova, Wellness Core, and Nutro. These makes are made to reduce carbohydrates in the cat's diet as cats cannot digest them as cat are obligate carnivores (which means they can only eat meat) and are not like us humans who are omnivores (able to eat meats and other food stuffs like berries, nuts and vegetables). So, if you go for a good quality high protein and low carbohydrate make your kitten will benefit greatly as these types of wet food are known to be much easier on a sensitive tummy like your kitten may have.

Here's a link explaining why high protein food is better for a cat and some good makes recommended that you can buy -

All the best and good luck with introducing your kitten and cat back to adult food.

  7. i recomend iams and normally puppies stop eating puppy food at 1 year but im not sure about kittens, no its not healthy for adult cats to eat kitten food yeah the adjustment they might throw up at first

  8. I don't really understand because when I first got my kitty he loved Whiskas and he still eats them.

  9. you should just start introducing her to adult food slowley, so she can get used to it, and buy a couple of different kinds, to see what she likes the best.

  10. You mix the two different kinds of food to get her use to it and slowly ween her off of the kitten food.  If you change food to abruptly the cat will get diharrea

  11. Just put out kitten and cat food and see which one she goes for, when my cats were kittens they usually ate my cats food instead of the kitten food.
