Question:

My cat is having difficulties breathing?

I just got home and I realized that my cat is not as I left her. She is having some breathing difficulties. Her whole body is shaking while she breathes. She's isn't breathing any faster, just harder and deeper to get a good breath. I noticed lately that she has been having a lot of hair ball problems, but nothing has come of it. I give her a hairball medication, but lately she hasn't been taking it from me. I came home earlier during my lunch hour and she was fine. Now, I get home and she is lethargic and not purring. She isn't following me around the house and she isn't meowing at all. She normally meows a thousand times when I get home. I am really nervous and I'm wondering if I should take her to the after hours emergency animal clinic. Any ideas?

  1. well if she is overweight it can cause cats to have a problem with their organs such as liver failure or their lungs get all messed up from all the fat around it that is makes it difficult for your cat to breath, you should take her to a vet to see if that's the only problem or it might be something else if she isn't overwieght, have a professional see her just in case

  2. its probably a hair ball.

  3. Yes, you should definitely take the cat to the emergency clinic. It may just be something simple, but if not treated, heavy breathing and shaking can be a serious and life threatening issue.

  4. yeh, get her to the after hours emergency animal clinic ASAP, its probably a hair ball.

  5. Um, I would seriously consider taking her to the vet.

  6. get her there right away! sounds very serious. i would definitely get her to an after hours emergency clinic tonight!

  7. She needs to go to the clinic ASAP. Heart problems, foreign object stuck in throat, pneumonia. Too may possibilities. She needs treatment now. Best wishes.

  8. I'd get her to the vet to be on the safe side.

  9. Anytime a cat has breathing problems it needs to be checked out. I think I would take her in to make sure it isn't something serious. Could be URI, pneumonia or something worse. The fact that  she is lethargic is a concern also. I know it is more expensive to go to the emergency clinic, but I feel much better when I go. It is worth the extra money to not have to worry or to know you are getting them the care they need as quickly as you can. Hope everything turns out OK with your cat .

  10. Get her to the vet now! Breathing difficulties have a lot of causes most some of which are life threatening.
