My cat is losing weight, what is wrong???

My 10 year old male cat has been losing weight I think. We recently moved to a new state a month ago (he had his first plane ride, new house, etc). He got a check up the day we flew (June 25) and weighed 10.9lbs.

Recently when I've pet him I've noticed I can feel his spine along his back and I never could before (bumps on his spine is what I feel...bones?)

I'm making him an appt. Monday morning (this morning)...what could it be??? He's had his heartworm meds and his shots before we moved. I've noticed he isn't eating that much, could it be stress from the move still??

He's been acting like himself, very playful always running and jumping around like before.

Please help me!!!

  1. Check  if  gums  are  pale,  could  be  anemic in  which  Vet  can  treat.  May  just need  better  food for  a  older  cat.,  or  deworm.  Vet  will rule out  most  things  with  blood  test.  Also  hot  weather  is just  hard on  animals. He  should  be  adjusted  to  the  move  by now.

  2. Is it warmer weather or summer where you moved to, Cats loose weight in summer.

  3. Is he drinking more water than usual?  Also, is he using his litter box alot more?  Do you notice a funny smell when he urinates?  Alot of things cause weight loss in cats-  diabetes in one, hyperthyroid is aonther- all of this can be determined with blood testing- do it.. don't opt out of blood testing.   The CBC or the Wellness panel should be able to tell you whats going on with kitty.  If you can,  try to find a sterile container and take a urine collection with to the vet.  They might be able to check for UTI- which can be serious if left untreated- renal failure comes to mind also when you say that he is losing weight

Whatever you do- get his blood checked.

  4. I am happy to hear you have made an appointment already. Weight loss in cats can often be a thyroid problem, if the vet suspects this expect them to take a blood sample. It could be a bunch of other things, but from reading your first headline I immediately thought of the thyroid. Good luck at the vet!

  5. Make sure the vet runs blood tests. This could be so many different things. Have you changed his food? Is he drinking excessively? Consider many things so you can ask the vet.

  6. try to take him to the vet to see what's wrong with your old Darling

i  really sorry for poor old you.i hope your cat gets better.

same with my cat but now that it is over
