My cat is lying in his litterbox. He is an adult, should I be concerned about this new behavior?

We are in a new house but he acts perfectly normal other than this. He has urinary tract issues before and that is the reason for my concern. He is urinating okay but I just dont understand the strange behavior.

  1. Cats are just furry little whacked out humans.  Ours finds different places to lie down that he will stick w. for days weeks or months, he's got a £50 basket that he won't go near and would always rather find somewhere weird or dangerous to hang out.  He will get tired of it especially if you encourage him to go there, they love to take the p**s. (metaphorically)

  2. I have 7 cats and they do that when they are scared. It's prob. normal but get it checked anyway by a vet .

  3. He is probably stressed and the litterbox is a familiar place and smell that has not changed.  As long as he is eating/drinking and urinating normally - let him be.  When moving, you should always put the cat in a quiet room until the moving is completed and most of the furniture is in it's place - then letting him out.  With all the moving and movement - he probably got anxiety-filled.  Positive reinforcement by gently calling him and petting him when he is out and about is best.

  4. Our male cat does that too, it irritates my boyfriend since he just got done cleaning the litter and now out female cat is doing the same thing; we haven't noticed anything wrong w/them...The cats probably just enjoy the litter most especially when it's clean, just keep an eye on your cat for unusual behavior like you've mentioned it had past UTI problems...Cats are hella bizarre aren't they

  5. Just like my cat lays in the sink, it must just be a comfort issue. As long as he isnt straining, or making an effort for urination. I  think its just a "oh this is comfy" moment.

  6. Watch him when he goes to use the litter box and make sure hes not straining (usually visible by tail shaking) or over shooting litter box as these are both signs of a urinary infection and if he is having problems as this he may lay in the box  til he can finish. My cat had urinary tract issues till i changed her food . If all else seems ok then it could just be a familiar place your cat feels safe in a new place.

  7. It's a cat for you.

Some cats do that and some cats don't.

I can't explain why... they just like it, I guess.
