My cat is missing....?

OK. I lived in a house for all my life (Im 16) with the cats who are both from the same litter and are 11/12 yrs old. We moved out in May and lived with my sister for 2months until we found a house, We found a house and moved in 2 and a half weeks ago. We let them out quite early to be honest but that was my Dad's fault, I told him not to but he did. We haven't seen her since Tuesday night. Any advice on how to deal with such a situation and what cats are like.

The last time she went missing a few years ago was because she was attacked by a fox and couldn't walk, we found her a couple of streets away. Just hoping someone could tell me what cats are like, do you think she'll come home?? She's not very independant either. Ive already contacted the new owners of my old house and informed them and also my sister (all houses are within a half mile radius)

Thanks in advance

x

And I know I babbled a bit there but I;m sooo worried about her, I just wnat my baby home :'(

  1. Cat sometimes manage to find their way back to where they used to live,so it's good someone is keeping a look out for your cat!

A cat thats not very independent? don't you believe it! My cats know just who to go to for the best grub and stuff! My son who has autism is number one for food....he even shares his sandwiches with them! But he cannot sit still for to long and they come to me for a knee!

Plus they say cat have a second home.....I can believe this a true also, cos my cats have been known to disappear for a whole day! and come back the next morning like they've never been away!

    Lol

  2. Try contacting your local shelter and they'll help you locate your cat. They'll look in their new cats and can post a picture of her in their window or on a wall or something for those who come to the shelter. Try putting up posters on telephone polls and store windows. Good luck.

  3. Oh no!

Cat's are usually AMAZING at finding their way home. I wouldn't worry. Try signs in shop windows and stuff to help. Poor kitty. :(

    I hope you find her.

  4. Maybe your cat went back to your old house,I had a dog and we moved and he ran back to our old house. Sometimes I think its just what they are used to.

I also agree I am a nervous wreck when i cant find my cat. And hes indoors! :D lol

  5. My cat has been missing for 4 months :(

it is horrible i miss my baby

    i hope urs comes back

    realy,i do

  6. Yes you did let her out too early - should have been at least 3 weeks if not more.  However, no point in going over that.  If you have her litter tray or scratching post, put it outside as the scent should attract her back - you could also put some of your old clothing out as well.  If cats run they usually run in a straight line so start at the door and walk forward calling her.  If she is afraid she will probably hide in bushes until she calms down and this could take a few days.  Leave food and water outside and keep checking with the owners of your old house as it is very close and she could well be making her way back there.

  7. If she's alive and hasn't been picked up by animal control or a well-meaning person who thought she was a stray, she'll come home.

However, as you've learned in the past, there are lots of risks involved with outdoor cats - predators, cars, other cats. Usually when cats don't come home, it's not because they "ran away" - it's because something happened to them.

  8. I know how you feel right now.

I think your dad did let her out too early. She may be trying to find her way home. Cats are VERY territorial and the new environment must feel strange for her. It would've been better to let her out within your backyard at first so she could spray her scent around and know her new territory. How far away from your old home have you moved? If it isn't too far i suggest you go and put up signs in your old neighbourhood and check back at your old house with whoever lives there now. Cats are pretty amazing with how far they will go to get home. My cat was dropped 6 miles away by some a*****e who hates cats and made its own way home over the course of 3 days.

I hope you find her, i know the pain and worry you are going through, i've lost my cats so many times. Im sure you will find her. Try and find some way of marking a sort of scent near and around your house that she recognises. Any of your clothes with her fur on it (i know it gets everywhere), her favourite dry food, just put it around the place so she can recognise it if she is around and find her way back if she is trying to do so. Maybe even some catnip, cats absolutely love it and you can find it cheap at pet stores, although be warned you may get a few random cats sniffing around your garden just keep the faith that one of the cats will be yours

    :-)

  9. I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty.  I have 2 from the same litter...well one now.  They were the only of the litter and very, very close.  One of them passed last year.  I believe they would have found their way back to each other if one was ever lost.  When the one brother died, the other searched and searched in the house.  I didn't let him out for awhile so he wouldn't go looking for his brother outside.  In terms of your move, I moved them from the city (which had a small enclosed garden) to a big house in a small village.  I kept them inside for 3-6 months (I don't know which).   Then I let them outside on harnesses with a lead...like used for a dog.  They were mainly inside cats, but when they went out, they stayed with that for about six months, until they decided they didn't need the harnesses anymore and figured out how to get out of them.  After that, they never roamed any farther than the next door neighbor (who also had a cat) and never, ever went into the street.  Other than checking with the owners of your old house, putting up pictures, and letting people know to watch out for her, the only thing I can think of would be to take some brushed off hair from their brush and put it somewhere you think will help her get home...kind of like a trail for her to follow.  Just a thought...  Well, I babbled on as well, but I really love my kitties too.  I sure hope she comes home.  If you don't already have them, make sure you get collars and tags.  Good luck!   ****I LEFT SEVERAL POSITIVE THUMBS UP TO THIS QUESTION AND FOR SOME REASON THEY WERE ALL RECORDED AS THUMBS DOWN!  THERE WERE ALOT OF GREAT ANSWERS!....I'll report the bug to yahoo!****UPDATE:  LOOKS LIKE THEY FIXED MOST.

  10. I am so sorry for you as i know this is so upsetting.

Firstly she may not be far away at all. This happened to my sisters cat last year. They printed off loads of flyer's stating date cat missing, cats name, address etc and then post them in several blocks around you and also in local shop window. It may be prudent to phone your vet to see if a cat has been found.

Take no notice if you get any criticism in here either.
