My cat is not eating?

My 2 year old cat is not eating much and he seems to be throwing up a lot. This has been going on for about 3 weeks. i took him to the vet and she could not find anything immediately wrong with him, other than the fact that he was skinny. he is normally a very active and playful cat but he now does not want to play. I just got a Kitten...I took in a stray cat who had kittens and I kept one of the kittens, I found homes for all the other ones. The ktten has been here for a little more than 3 weeks. The vet said it could be emotional stress. If it is then when will this stop, I want my cat to return to his old self. I also took in 2 strays last year and found them good homes, and my cat had no problem getting along with them. I am just scared this might be a more underlying problem with my cat. he is everything to me,

  1. it's dead

    poke it.

  2. Trade him in for a dog,,,,quick!

  3. I would recommend changing the food. It might be hair-balls if you vet didn't already clear that.

best of luck for your kitty ^^

  4. Listen, I had the same problem with my cat and I didn't find out what the real issue was until it was way too late.

My cat was exhibiting the same signs and symptoms that you described, and the vet aid the same exact thing. Well, two weeks later it got worse and the cat completely just shut down....

Upon arriving at the vet, and after hours and hours of tests, the vet found out that the cat had slowly been getting more and more sickly due to very decreased liver/kidney function (hence the weight loss), by the time I found out what the real problem was my cat's immune system  and kidneys were to shutdown to respond to treatment, and I had to bury my cat the next day...

Please, go to the vet and ask if it could be this, because by the time real symptoms show up, it'll be too late.

Good luck and keep me updated.

  5. cats do throw up and they r called hairballs and mayb it doesnt like its food

  6. The not eating and consistent vomiting could be the sign of a foreign body (he has eaten something he cannot pass). If your vet did blood work to rule out any problems with organ function, then that would be the something else to consider. Have you ever caught him eating a Christmas bow, or string, or plastic, or anything else he should not eat? If you are still worried about him, and his health doesn't improve, get a second opinion. I have worked with many vets and seen many misdiagnosis.  Good luck, I hope you find an answer and your kitty gets better.

  7. play with your cat and dont give up, its obviously emotional from the cat leaving but if you really care about your cat so much get another cat (prefferably girl) for him to play with but wont be long till he turns back to his old self.

  8. I would observe the cats f***s, and bathroom habits.

Is their water intake about the same as well? Any dietary change or changes in environment? How does the vomit look? Any traces of anything foreign? Is there anything in the environment they may have ingested? This and the animals behavior can be clues to a more overlooked problem.

    What are you feeding them?

I would take it to another vet ASAP for another opinion! Please, do NOT put that off.  Even calling around or going on cat forums may bring to light a better picture.

I also would have some tests ran, blood, scat/fecal, maybe an X-ray. Even then, tests may not be conclusive but they usually a great place to start in diagnosing a problem.

I would also be leary about additional cats that are strangers/strays being around my known pet until the other cats you take in are cleared by vet checks.

  9. beings you have your cat around strays i would have the vet do tests on him...for Feline leukemia FIV or any other disease they could get from strays. i would also seek another vet. my cat had FIV and this is what happened to him and he died in like 3 weeks

  10. try another vet as soon as possible.sound like uve gone to the vet recently but even though u will spend monney on another appointment, it will be heaps cheaper than leaving it till the condition gets worse.

    bbest wishes for ur kitty

  11. Try another Vet!! QUICK!!!!!

  12. feed him mashed potatoes
