Now my cat Nougat is obese. He is naturally a large build and is long furred but he is actually very fat. He has a large appetite- and we are feeding him light food but the problem is we have two other cats (and they are not fat) and he eats there food once the leave breakfast.

HELP!

  1. I've had this problem with one of my cats before. We would lock our "fat cat", Tomas, out of the room when the other cats were eating, and when they finished we had Tomas come in and eat his meal. At first the other cats would complain because they were used to having food available all day, but after about a week they got used to the twice a day feeding routine, and Tomas started to drop some weight because he wasn't eating the other cats' food.

  2. this may seem weird. but try taking it for a walk.

  3. feed him more.... i LOVE fat cats!!!

  4. separate the two from that one when feeding them. don't let the fat cat eat they're food.

  5. you could try feeding him separately from the others and make sure you lift the other cats bowls when they leave. if its a major problem with his health, take him to a vet and see if they can suggest anything else you can try. hope this helps

  6. Often "Light" or "Diet" foods, while low in calories, have very high carbohydrates, which cats' systems don't thrive on.

Is the cat eating dry or canned cat food?  If dry, try to transition to canned.  If canned, try to find foods such as Wellness (sold in Petco) - look for the yellow triangle on the label to get grain-free.

The ideal solution is a healthy and monitored raw diet.  If you are not comfortable with that route, then low-carb canned is the way to go.  And your cat will be much healthier.

Also, don't forget to play with him (if he is physically up to it) - cats need exercise!

    Good luck!

  7. control his portions. feed all of your cats twice a day (or he will eat their food, too)  give him some excercise with dangly toys, etc.

you may need to seperate him from the other two until everyone finishes their meal.

pick up and put away the unused portions.

  8. You need to feed the other cats in a different room where Nougat doesn't have access to it. Also, you may want to consider getting a harness and leash for Nougat and take him for a nice walk every evening. This will be good for you and Nougat too. Good luck and keeping Nougat away from the food is key. Make sure to give him a lot of love and attention while he makes the transition in his diet.

  9. Join it ;)

-Nah if its too fat his legs will collapse over his own body weight :)

  10. you should probably feed the fat cat and the other 2 cats at different times or in different rooms.  Also you might want to put the larger cat on diet cat food.
