  1. Besides a simple diet, make him work to get his food, like put it on top of the washing machine, or something.

  2. Get a lazer light for your cat to chase.  Give the cat only 1/4 cup of dry cat food in the morning and in the evening.  If he eats wet, no more than a tablespoon.  That's what our vet told us.

  3. Measure his food, stop spoiling him and play with him so he gets some exercise.

  4. It's great to know that you realize that you cat has gotten more weight than he could handle and needs help. However, this has to be done slowly and gradually. There are a lot of things that you need to keep in mind and one of the most important is to never cut out his food too much, too soon. With an overweight cat, weight loss has to happen gradually to prevent fatty liver disease.

Here's a great website with well researched info and guide on how to properly create a diet plan:-

    A Short summary:-

To get a cat to lose weight, do the following after consulting with your veterinarian:

1.) Have a thorough physical exam, lab tests, and accurate weigh recorded. Be sure to rule out hypothyroidism or other metabolic disorders.

2.) Feed less food than you have been

3.) Feed foods high in protein and fat and low in carbohydrate

4.) Feed small portions at intervals (2x to 4x per day) rather than continuous free access/ free choice

5.) Increase the cat’s activity/exercise by enriching the cat’s environment

6.) Reweigh the cat at three to four week intervals to assess your weight loss diet’s progress

7.) Reconsider the total daily amount fed if weight gain or no weight loss is noted

8.) Once the cat is at an idea weight, adjust the total amount fed so that the cat’s body weight remains stable.

Kindly read through the important tips and you can start him on the road to a better body and healthier life!

  5. only feed him a certain amount of food every day at a certain time and walk him. he might not like it because he's lazy but he'll get used to it. My gram has to do it with her dog becuase it's the same way.

  6. It sounds like he is normal cat. I would cut down on his food and play with him. That is about all you can do, think of Garfield and that is what a cat is really about.

  7. try buying him a laser toy or something you can play with him that gives him good exercise also only feed him twice a day don't over feed him. and when hes done with his food take it from him right away.

  8. Play with him.  Get one of those toys like the feather on the string, and get him moving.  Since he is out of shape he will probably not play too long at a time but exercise is accumulative so you can play several times a day and gradually work up to longer play sessions.  He will probably limit himself so that he won't over do it so watch for his signals. Buy him a GOOD quality low cal food.  Talk to your vet because many of the foods for overweight pets is just food that is overloaded with fillers of no nutritional value and the pet can actually be hungary and you would not know it.  Good luck.

  9. Well, i work at 2 vet clinics, and soemtimes obese cats can develope problems. Like diabetes (yes cats get them too). So u might want to change his food like Over weight Feline food,a dn try getting him active. But honestly if a cats lazy, there not going to do anything. Seen it, and i myself have tried to do things. lol. But i say, just bring it in to ur vet, just for a check up, and discuss what food options would be good.

  10. put him on the treadmill or walk him.

  11. My cat has always been lazy but I wanted to start feeding him Senior food and the doctor recommended purina one.  After a month I notice my cat has crazy energy!  He will do the most spontaneous things, like run down the hall and back up in seconds.  He also looks better and seems more alert.  TAKE THE PURINA ONE CHALLENGE! :)

  12. I would be overweight and lazy too if I didn't have to work, had no responsibilities, a roof over my head and was fed faithfully every day. I think I'll be a cat in my next life, but I just hope my owner doesn't post a question on YA complaining that I'm too fat and lazy.

  13. You are overfeeding it.    1 meal a day and only a handful.     The cat will survive.  And kick  the cat outdoors so it gets some exercize.

  14. Buy weight control cat food and slowly start mixing it in with your regular food until he gets use to it. then just give him the weight control food. He should lose weight then. And buy him a laser light. They LOVE them!
