Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone who has raised cats can answer my question.
I have been away for a month and a friend has been taking care of my cat. Usually at this time of year I shave his coat because it gets really hot here, only I forgot to do it and I didn't ask her to do it either. So I came back on Tuesday night and I noticed that his chest was completely bald and the skin's color was very dark, almost purple. My friend took him to the vet the next morning and he said that it was some sort of skin rash caused by the heat (I hope I translated that correctly) and that they had to shave his coat completely, and I told them to go ahead.
The thing is, my cat has been shaved lots of times before and they never tranquilized him so I was surprised when he came back to me barely able to walk. I called the vet right away and he told me that he would be fine soon. Now it's been 4 days and my cat is still not looking well. He looks like he's still effected by the tranquilizer and the vet assured me that it's fine but my gut feeling tells me that he's not. He doesn't want me to touch him, like every part of his body hurts when I touch him. He also sleeps while sitting and looks like he has a hard time laying down.
I've been rubbing the cream the vet gave me on him 3 times a day since Wednesday and I took him on Saturday and the vet said that after some tests it turned out to be some sort of fungal (sp?) infection and that he would fine, he just needs me to continue rubbing the cream on him for 10 more days.
Also, I've been trying to keep the AC low or off as much as I can but it seems that my cat still managed to catch a cold. He's been sneezing since yesterday and I didn't want to seem like some crazy cat person but I couldn't just stand back and watch him suffer like this so I asked the vet and he said that I should just keep him warm and he'll get better on his own.
I don't want to be paranoid but I've heard a lot about cases were pets could have been treated from serious illnesses if action was taken right away and I don't want to allow his condition to progress (if it will).
So ... I'm hoping someone who has a pet that went through this can shed some light and tell me if I'm worried for nothing or if I should start looking for another vet.
I would really appreciate any help because I just feel so guilty.
