Question:

My cat is so aloof. Any tips to make her become more friendly?

My cat always hides or leaves the room when friends come over. I want her to be social. I don't understand why she is so timid. I adopted her when she was 15 weeks old and I've always treated her with care and affection. She has no history of abuse or anything that would make her not trust people.

A friend of mine just adopted a cat and he is super friendly. Is there any way to coax mine into being more a people-cat?

She is currently 2 years old.

  1. Like humans, some cats are shy.  When they feel comfortable, they will come out.  Some cats just don't like noise and action, if there is a lot of that, then it might not come out during that time.  Don't force your cat to do anything it doesn't want to do, they will remember you doing that and it makes it a stresser or fear.  Just let your cat be, if he doesn't want to meet your friends, then carry a picture to show them.

  2. feed her treats in your hand as your cat will be thinking about the food and then clap your cat while it is eating the food from your hand this is what my vet told me to do also buying cat play-fulljust a couple of sprays of your floor makes them playful

  3. My baby is shy like that too. She has no history of abuse, she's just super shy. She's my Queen and I'm her lowly Servant. LoL  But when there's a knock on the door she's a ghost. Some kitties are like that. My baby is starting to peek around the corner when there's company, although she won't come completely out. If your sweety is going to warm up to company, it will take a while. Encourage your friends to toss treats to her when she does make an appearance. But, if she never warms to people, then you get to keep her love and antics all to yourself! :) Good Luck!

  4. Cats are their own people and some are just more aloof than others. I have noticed that males are usually much more outgoing than females, but it is not always tha case.

How cat friendly are your friends? A cat should be much more outgoing towards 'cat people' a.k.a. people who have kept cats before and know how to charm them.

If you have a few cat friendly people about, maybe you can get them to offer your girl some treats to see if that makes her a bit more sociable.

  5. I HAVE A CAT SHE IS 12 YEARS OLD AND STILL SOMETIMES RUNS AND HIDES FROM MY WIFE AND ME. BUT OTHERTIMES SHE SITS ON US AND CHIRPS, NICE. GIVE YOUR CAT TIME. MY OTHER 4 ARE NOT AS JUMPY AS THAT ONE BUT EVEN THEY RUN SOMETIMES. GOOD LIKE
